Bella Parola: Wilmington police step up post-bar patrols downtown
http://bellaparola.blogspot.com/2007/07/wilmington-police-step-up-post-bar.html
Sunday, July 1, 2007. Wilmington police step up post-bar patrols downtown. Wilmington Star-News: Police step up post-bar patrols. All I can say, is why has there been such tolerance until now? It's been out of hand for years. I hope this will help de-scent downtown from the aroma of beer, both pre- and post-consumption, and get rid of the more dangerous elements - including those imported from elsewhere and locals who prey upon outsiders, both. Bella Parola: Product placement works - on WWAY news
http://bellaparola.blogspot.com/2007/06/product-placement-works-on-wway-news.html
Wednesday, June 6, 2007. Product placement works - on WWAY news. I truly do not look for reasons to pick on WWAY. But the news item I saw last night about the local BMW dealer earning a 2007 "Center of Excellence Award" - from BMW, not some objective outside party - is the single worst instance of pandering I've ever seen. OK, so there are about 350 BMW dealers in North America, which means that 35 of them won this award this year. In fact, a quick google finds that at least one other dealership. This wa...

Bella Parola: February 2007

Tuesday, February 13, 2007. A Favorite Fish Experiences Identity Theft. This story doesn't surprise me at all as my mother was served a fishy, skinny little piece of fish pretending to be grouper two or three years ago at one of those crazy-busy, big fried seafood places. Bella Parola: June 2007
http://bellaparola.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 25, 2007. How 'bout them Realtors? Ted Vaden, the "Public Editor," or ombudsman, at the News and Observer, got snippy about the profession of real estate in answering a question. About why the N&O capitalizes "Realtor." And one responder used AP style as a reason for not. Capitalizing it, incorrectly. Below is my comment in reply. I agree that the tone of this item is unnecessarily snide. But, Editor Beth, you know a different AP style than I learned. While I don't have a Stylebook. Today's ...

Bella Parola: Jousting a little with a much brighter light
http://bellaparola.blogspot.com/2007/06/jousting-little-with-much-brighter.html
Friday, June 22, 2007. Jousting a little with a much brighter light. GD Gearino, the late lamented columnist at the News and Observer, on his website Words Assembled Well. Makes a couple of interesting points today. Here's my reply to his post:. Thank you for making clear a mostly unmentioned meaning of the Nifong spectacle. There is a real belief that people of their station in life are of inherently higher value, and infinitely higher sensitivity. Don't most media employers prohibit any political activ...

Sunday, July 1, 2007. Today's tearjerker, from the WaPo. Fated to Be Friends. Sometimes you read a remarkable news story about remarkable people, remarkable events, and remarkable moments in history.
