More then 10 years after Oracle’s first appliance attempt with Raw Iron and 3 years after the release of Exadata, Oracle has now announced the Unbreakable DB Applicance. This cluster in a box consists out of a 4 RU chassis, in which 2 server nodes, 96 GB memory per node, 12 TB raw shared disk storage (24 disks) and 292 GB flash disks has been placed. Oracle Linux 5.6 with the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (2.6.32-100.36.1.el5uek). Test srv is a service which has both the instance running on node1 and node2 as preferred instances. On node1 the service was manually stopped. Issue a “shutdown abort” on the instance running on node2. Start the instance again. Same test, but this time the service is stopped on all instances.

With more and more VMWare customers choosing to use Oracle VM as virtualisation platform for running Oracle Software, the need rose at a client to convert some of the windows VM’s on vCenter to OVM. Surprisingly, I didn’t find a guide in the OVM 3 manual. I knew OVM 2.2 had a chapter about V2V, but only P2V gets covered in the OVM 3 manual. Stop the VM ( Downtime starts here ).

Oracle in the field. Tales of a consultant. Mysql – GTID replication. March 6, 2015. GTID replication is new in mysql 5.6 and adds an unique ID to every transaction on the database. That transaction ID is then used to ensure the transaction is applied on the slave. So this removes the need to know where the master is in which logfile. GTID ensures there is consistency and automatically determines at which transaction the slave is at and which transaction is next on the list. Setting up GTID Replication.
