Small Steps for Big Change. Here is what my current budget looks like:. I’ve color-coded the entire thing so that you can see which account each expense will come from. I use BofA to pay bills and ING for regular expenses (because there are no overdraft fees). In total I have 4 different accounts that I regularly use. Account #1 – Bofa:. Color coded pink in my budget). Account #2 – ING Checking:. Color-coded purple in budget). Account #3 – ING Savings. Color coded orange in the budget). Where did you get...

Just Write A Check...: Fall Updates
http://writeacheck.blogspot.com/2010/11/fall-updates.html
Just Write A Check. Paying back debts, one check at a time. Tuesday, November 9, 2010. I updated the progress bars on the right side again, it feels so good to see the credit cards decreasing so much! As soon as some of the pending payments clear, we'll be under $10k in outstanding balance on the credit cards! When all that hit, we still had to absorb payments of half that, which was tough but fortunately still possible for us. One of the cars is completely paid off, so we're down to a single car loan!

Addicted to Toaster Strudel: June 2009
http://addictedtotoasterstrudel.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, June 30, 2009. I owe (including most recent penalties and fees). Federal: $3,876.88. State: $1,185.43. Yes, ouch. Big time. Well, crap. The limit isn't really enough to pay anyone in full. So, I put it off to the side and didn't think about it. And this has been way too much dealing with money for one night. I need some Toaster Strudel. Trying a new way to save money away. The other night, I was reading The Simple Dollar. What I would ordinarily do is on Bill Day. So, my plan is this. Once a...

Just Write A Check...: March 2011
http://writeacheck.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Just Write A Check. Paying back debts, one check at a time. Friday, March 11, 2011. Compared to the "average" person who can afford their mortgage payments but simply don't want to pay any more, and decide to give back the house to the bank, this particular situation seems far worse to me. They got a huge financial gain out of it, by getting their other loans paid off completely! I'd be happy renting a house for a few years, if it meant being free of all the house debt and never-ending maintenance and re...

Just Write A Check...: January 2011
http://writeacheck.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Just Write A Check. Paying back debts, one check at a time. Sunday, January 30, 2011. Our other car's payments are $350/month, with almost a year and a half left. I hate that we're taking out that much more debt, especially when the existing car was only just paid off and still runs fine. but the reality is that we're wasting at least that much in eating out and other non-frugal spending each month too. Just Write A Check...: August 2010
http://writeacheck.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Just Write A Check. Paying back debts, one check at a time. Sunday, August 22, 2010. In the upcoming months, I'll likely be asked to start taking furlough days. In my case, the furlough days will be unpaid days, sort of like a temporary layoff, but will probably be structured as a day off every so many work days. I don't yet know the details, but it'll most likely represent at least a 20% pay cut. And realistically, it'll be closer to 30%, because I'll lose overtime pay as well. Just Write A Check. Just ...

Just Write A Check...: No Progress
http://writeacheck.blogspot.com/2011/03/no-progress.html
Just Write A Check. Paying back debts, one check at a time. Wednesday, March 9, 2011. In the past month, we haven't really made any more financial progress. We had a few extra bills this past month, including our annual homeowners association dues. The combination of vacation and the extra bills meant that we only paid the minimums on the remaining credit card debt. Just Write A Check. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Overall Debt, as of Mar 10, 2011. Current Balance: $57,354 $140,932 $0.

Just Write A Check...: March 2010
http://writeacheck.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Just Write A Check. Paying back debts, one check at a time. Friday, March 5, 2010. Earlier today I had a discussion with a friend who is planning to move later this spring. Her and her husband are going to try to negotiate a lower monthly rent amount, and are going to offer to prepay a significant amount (6-12 months) if the landlord or management company will agree to reduce the payment by about $100/mo (roughly 15%). The building has plumbing or mechanical problems (a pipe freezes then bursts, or the b...

Just Write A Check...: April 2011
http://writeacheck.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Just Write A Check. Paying back debts, one check at a time. Thursday, April 14, 2011. A few years ago, I was in favor of most of the low-income tax breaks and programs. I volunteered with programs that served low-income families, and saw how much those programs helped. At tax time, they are getting tax credit refunds of $5-10k! Meanwhile, we're having to pay in way more than that, and that's after working hard all year. Just Write A Check. Labels: quit my job. Wednesday, April 13, 2011. We have been able...

Addicted to Toaster Strudel: 2009 Goals
http://addictedtotoasterstrudel.blogspot.com/2010/02/2009-goals.html
Monday, February 1, 2010. Wow Back-to-back posts. Dont have a stroke. After posting that last entry. I was reading through it, and the list of my goals caught my eye. Being 2010 now, I think that it would be appropriate to comment on how things went, and of course, judge myself for failing to get things done. Short Term Goals: Jan 1, 2010. Increase savings account to $1,500. FAIL (6.5%). OUCH! There is only $97.29 in my savings account! Start and Get Vet/Emergency Savings to $400. WIN (115%). WOO! FAIL (...
