One Move, The Beginning. The first three weeks. My school, however, was fantastic. My cooperating teacher was also amazing. I was sitting in on a 6th grade science class, where the teacher had four different sections, ranging from high learners to students classified as special education students with IEP. On day three, I get a call from the NYC Teaching Fellows that I was placed in the wrong school. Because I was accepted into the Blending Learning Institute,. So now I am at Mott Hall V. I am just delvi...

Travel and Living abroad from a brown girl's perspective. August 17, 2013. Black don’t crack? There’s an old saying that says black don’t crack, but (in my NOLA voice) baaaaby don’t believe the hype! Due to my ignorance and decision to not use sunblock, I’m experiencing a burning sensation that I’ve NEVER felt before! Fast forward to a day later and I get this tingling sensation all over my body (lips included- like WOW, really, the lips too? And I’m thinking to myself, what in the world is going on?

Travel and Living abroad from a brown girl's perspective. January 1, 2014. In search of it…. I’m so excited to welcome the New Year, mainly because 2013 was a bit of a roller coaster for me. If I had to sum my year up in one word, I would say that TRUST, would be it! Fast forward almost a year later and I’m happy for the experiences that I’ve had and the lessons that I’ve learned and continue to learn. While there are many lessons that I will take into the New Year, there are a few that stick out. You ar...

Travel and Living abroad from a brown girl's perspective. I’ve been traveling all my life, but I can’t pinpoint when the travel bug hit me. My earliest memories were a family trip to Disney world in Florida. I was so excited because it was my first plane ride. I am a woman of a certain age and by the world’s standards that means I’m no spring chicken, but I’m not quite ready for retirement. That sort of leaves me in limbo because what’s a girl to do? I started planning, with a checklist for Operation Cos...
