Caitlin C: Rattlebone
http://caitlinecblog.blogspot.com/2010/12/rattlebone.html
Monday, December 13, 2010. The second unit exposed me to many new concepts, that I was not aware of or simply didn’t see the importance of, in the first unit. One of these concepts was outside information, and the effect it. Can have on a specific short story. In the second unit the readings were all from the same collection, so the outside information was the information the other stories told us. We know that Maxine Clair is more knowledgeable on the town then she told us because she was able to create...

Caitlin C: The Yellow Wallpaper
http://caitlinecblog.blogspot.com/2010/11/yellow-wallpaper.html
Monday, November 15, 2010. The woman in the yellow wallpaper in my opinion is outside of society watching. Because of her constant worry, her doctor husband tells her to not focus or spend to much attention to anything of importance and thus she is spending her time focusing on wall paper. By not allowing her to be a part of society she is losing the only aspects of life that ground her and keep her sane. She is simply observing it. November 16, 2010 at 7:27 AM. On what grounds is she isolated?

He keeps losing his job so he no longer able to find away to identify himself without the use of other people. He has to use his family to identify himself, not his capabilities because they are too bad and don’t work. Shorty Wilson – His family. Since he cannot find a way to identify himself through his work; he takes it out on his family. Shorty uses them as an outlet.

Caitlin C: Brief Encounters Blog

Tuesday, January 18, 2011. In this unit we analyzed a movie as well as read a short story. Watching a movie in class was really interesting because the aspects of a movie that I had never thought about before were pointed out to me. I have never thought about the use of light or the importance every scene in a movie has, but after watching the last king of Scotland I can see how every move a character makes and every depiction or thought a character has is important. I also liked some of the Che stories.

8220;The Grasshopper and the Bell Cricket”. Be the most unusually beautiful! And each night, they had gone out on their insect hunts. These were the twenty children and their beautiful lanterns that I now saw before me. 8220;Does anyone want a grasshopper? 8221; A boy, who had been peering into a bush about thirty feet away from the other children, suddenly straightened up and shouted. Give it to me! 8220;Does anyone want a grasshopper? 8220;Doesn’t anyone want a grasshopper? 8221; he thrust out his fist...

8220;Toward Winter”. Translated from the Japanese by Lane Dunlop and J. Martin Holman (1988). He was playing go. With the priest of the mountain temple. 8220;What’s happened to you? You’re weak today, like a different person,” the priest said. 8220;When the cold weather comes, I wither like a blade of grass. I’m good for nothing.” He felt completely defeated, as if he could not even return the look of his opponent. 8220;How about another game? I’ll light a fire in the sunken hearth.”. The guest’s c...

The Lonestar Blog: "The Fortune-Teller" - Joaquim Maria Machado de Assis

Sunday, November 14, 2010. The Fortune-Teller" - Joaquim Maria Machado de Assis. Hamlet observes to Horatio that there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in our philosophy. This was the selfsame explanation that was given by beautiful Rita to her lover, Camillo, on a certain Friday of November, 1869, when Camillo laughed at her for having gone, the previous evening, to consult a fortune-teller. The only difference is that she made her explanation in other words. 8220;She was wrong!

Thursday, November 18, 2010. An impossibly loud CLANK! Echoed through the house, out the door, across the porch and over the lake when the large steel tub landed upside-down on the kitchen floor. Mayfield look down from atop the small ladder and sighed. He descended the two steps. Louisa exploded through the porch door, her plum apron with the white frills slightly askew. In her hands, she still held a large portion of the knives and forks she had been laying out upon the outside table with precision.
