Little Expenses | Girl Gone Frugal
https://girlgonefrugal.wordpress.com/2010/02/02/little-expenses
Laquo; Menu Planning, Take 1. Spending, Week One. I’ve debated about putting up my full budget on here, and decided that maybe that can wait for a little bit. However, after making my budget and then remaking it, I do want to talk about expenses. What are yours? Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Revising my Food Budget | Girl Gone Frugal
https://girlgonefrugal.wordpress.com/2010/01/27/revising-my-food-budget
Laquo; Getting a Loan? Menu Planning, Take 1. Revising my Food Budget. So while I’m laid up in bed with the flu (of course, this won’t be posted for a few days) I’ve had a chance to do some thinking about my lifestyle foods, décor, etc. It doesn’t hurt that I’ve been watching HGTV and the Food Network so much! I’m making plans now. They love to feed the starving college student🙂. The first thing to do when you’re going frugal on food is to make up a weekly menu. Some women do this by looking at the sale...

Laquo; Girl Gone Frugal. Revising my Food Budget. So, combining my need for money with my love of languages, I’ve decided to become fluent in Spanish. This will open up the career possibilities for me so much while I’m building my dream life. And in order to get my educational needs met on both career fronts, I want to start my formal herbal training this year (on top of college) and get Rosetta Stone for Spanish. The two together will probably cost me about $1300 plus related expenses.

Laquo; Little Expenses. Spending, Week One. Is the rack that I think I got-metal and expandable. It only cost $30 this summer, but with the amount of laundry that I do, and the amount of energy that my dryer uses, it’s definitely worth it. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Laquo; Revising my Food Budget. Menu Planning, Take 1. Organized Home’s Menu Planner. Organized Home’s Grocery List. And Another For Good Measure. For the most part, I think I’m going to follow many people in the blogging world and do a Menu Plan Monday. So, what is the menu for the coming week? I wrote much of this post out previously and am going back in to rework now. The top and bottom half don’t match up, I know.). Fruit Salad, preferably with whipped cream; with block cheese slices. Because I’...

No Cash in the Trash | The Paupered Palate
https://pauperedpalate.wordpress.com/2010/11/10/no-cash-in-the-trash
Good Food in Hard Times. No Cash in the Trash. November 10, 2010. Luckily, I learn fast. Using things properly has become a big part of our frugal living. We strive to use it all. You pay for everything you take home, you should use everything. Even trimmings can be a large part of the cost of some foods. Bones, skins, and stalks are paid for, but often discarded. Obviously, this is something to avoid. Here are some of the main changes we have made to avoid waste. Fresh parsley and thyme stalks. Use it f...
Learning From “Mis-Steaks” | The Paupered Palate
https://pauperedpalate.wordpress.com/2010/05/07/learning-from-mis-steaks
Good Food in Hard Times. Learning From “Mis-Steaks”. May 7, 2010. Dinner the other night was a comedy of errors. Luckily, like most comedies, it had a happy ending. If you don’t know braciole you have got to try this dish. It is pronounced Sicilian style:. I decided to go ahead with the braciole, making one large roll and dealing with the gaps in the steak the best I could. I heated some vegetable oil in a large frying pan and dried the roll thoroughly with paper towels so it would not stick (a too often...

Good Food in Hard Times. Braised Pork Chops with Parsnips, Carrots, and Apples. November 4, 2010. We had three pork chops left over from a bulk package we bought, three parsnips we had picked up because they were on sale, and a couple honey crisp apples on which we had splurged (I don’t recommend wasting Honey Crisp on cooking, but if you do, this expensive super variety does quite well). We decided that a braise or a stew would be the perfect use for these oh-so-autumnal ingredients. 2 tbsp olive oil.

Finger on the Pulse: Lentils Three Ways | The Paupered Palate

Good Food in Hard Times. Finger on the Pulse: Lentils Three Ways. May 5, 2010. Lentil Salad With Tomato, Cucumber, and Herbs. 1 cup dried lentils (preferably red French lentils or another type that keep their shape well). 1 large garlic clove, chopped. 2 cups tomatoes, diced. 1 medium red onion, diced. 1 cucumber, peeled, seeded, and chopped. 1/2 cup fresh herbs (such as parsley, dill, basil, mint, cilantro, I like parsley and dill. More than 2 may be muddled). 3 tbsp red-wine vinegar, or to taste. Place...
Brine is Not the Solution! | The Paupered Palate
https://pauperedpalate.wordpress.com/2010/12/23/brine-is-not-the-solution
Good Food in Hard Times. Brine is Not the Solution! December 23, 2010. Well, I do. In fact, I am an anti-briner! I think brining makes a bird taste like it came from a cheap supermarket deli, or worse, makes it taste like ham! Just what does brining do? End up keeping more water in your meat, so it. Contribute to moistness. But is that good? I challenge all you briners to try a recipe that gives a moist bird without brining, and compare that to your brined product. Make sure you have properly salted ...
Rubbing Shoulders with the World: International Pork Shoulder Sandwiches | The Paupered Palate
https://pauperedpalate.wordpress.com/2011/01/17/rubbing-shoulders-with-the-world
Good Food in Hard Times. Rubbing Shoulders with the World: International Pork Shoulder Sandwiches. January 17, 2011. When it comes to quality and quantity of flavor for your dollar, it is hard to beat a butt. S Despite this disrespect from 18th century and earlier English eaters, much of the world has long recognized that with proper cooking, pork shoulder provides some of the tastiest meat an animal can offer. I decided on Vietnamese banh mi inspired sandwiches. Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder. 1 cup of water.

Good Food in Hard Times. Embracing Flavor: Fresh Cilantro Chutney. March 18, 2010. Embracing flavor is one of the fundamentals for eating well for less. While it is sometimes hard to buy the most flavorful meats and produce on a tight budget, there are enhancers you can use to make even bland food special. The right condiments can bring intense, vibrant taste to the most bland main dish, and because you use less, they can save you money. Cilantro Chutney (Dhania ka Chatni). 2 tbsp white wine vinegar.

Girl Gone East | Western Crisis, Eastern Promise
Western Crisis, Eastern Promise. Road Trippin’: Four Cities and a Hochzeit. August 25, 2016. Back on a dark and wintery Canberra evening last year, freezing in my badly insulated room, I received some news to warm me from the inside. My friend Danielle had just got engaged to her beau Jon and would be married in France! As opposed to a day like the rest of us, and I was not wrong when the details were announced. The idea for a road trip struck me when feeling dismayed over the exorbitant price of hotels ...
