EdgeMaster - Edge Stress Measurement System. The EdgeMaster is designed with the Quality Control technician in mind. It is a lightweight, handheld instrument designed specifically to measure edge stresses on automotive glass. The real-time sensor provides immediate full-field stress video for defect inspection. Live compression and tension data can be automatically entered into a central database via the integrated key pad.

SIDELITE / BACKLITE EDGE STRESS. In residential, and architectural window units, there are many thermal and environmental forces that can cause sashes to impart stress on the window units. In the example below, the corner of a window was monitored as the rail and stile of the sash absorbed moisture. The details of the interface caused a stress concentration that led to failure.

SIDELITE / BACKLITE EDGE STRESS. Similar to edge compression of backlites, heat-treated architectural products will benefit from edge compression. This photo shows a small table top inspection system used to assess glass as it comes out the lehr. For more detail on edge stress see automotive edge stress.

SIDELITE / BACKLITE EDGE STRESS. The band of edge compression around the perimeter of a windshield is very vital to the integrity of the unit. Insufficient edge compression can lead to cracking during installation or service. With this compression, comes a band of tension just inside the compressive edge. It is important that this tension not exceed limits or flow too far into the body of the window where a simple stone chip will turn into a run away crack.
