Mikawhere?: murakami matsuri 村上祭り
http://japenelle.blogspot.com/2009/07/murakami-matsuri.html
Living in rural Japan.always interesting! Friday, July 17, 2009. The morning Oomachi crew. We were a bit behind but started drinking almost as soon as we joined them! Along the way we were pulled into people's houses for beer, food, and relief from the sun. We were something of celebrities and the people were incredibly generous. Some of the houses along the route were very old, as Murakami was a castle town, and still had non-flushing (outhouse style) toilets. Besides the old guy on the left :). We foun...

http://japenelle.blogspot.com/2009/07/hokkaido-day-5.html
Living in rural Japan.always interesting! Wednesday, July 01, 2009. In a larger map. Ruu left us at Asahikawa to go visit her friend in Sapporo so we decided to go hiking in Daisetzu National Park. I read there were many waterfalls and I LOVE waterfalls. Can you find the waterfall? We didn't think there would be soooo much snow. The leaves had yet to bloom but it was still beautiful. I would love to go back in a different season. It really was hot! We went from mountains and snow to rolling lush farm lan...

Living in rural Japan.always interesting! Tuesday, July 28, 2009. I have lived in my small little place in Agamachi Japan the longest of anywhere since I moved out of my parents home when I was 18. It is tiny but it has become my home and I was sad to tear it apart! Here are some last pictures before I took everything down. This is just the living/ bedroom the rest of it is a mess! Bye bye little place in the mountains. Friday, July 24, 2009. Misael teaches the Koide kids. This is her duck face. Ironical...

Living in rural Japan.always interesting! Wednesday, May 27, 2009. Ruu asked Naomi and I to go on a bus tour to Nagano and I had always heard about Japanese tours so I thought why not. The tour was to the temple Zenkoji which is famous every seven years when it's inner doors open to reveal a treasured copy of a famous statue which no one is allowed to see! Rabu rabu dumpling things. Make the extra rice into an onigiri for later. Naomi avoiding the rain by choosing her drink from a telephone booth.

Mikawhere?: Hokkaido Day 7
http://japenelle.blogspot.com/2009/07/hokkaido-day-7.html
Living in rural Japan.always interesting! Wednesday, July 08, 2009. Hokkaido is famous for it's namacarameru or handmade caramel. The factory/farm Hanabatakebokujo where it is made is somewhat of a tourist destination so we decided to check it out. You can watch as the workers stir the caramel by hand. There aren't many farms in Japan with animals so it is quite a novelty for Japanese people but both Naomi and having seen our fair share it was a little humorous. The miniature horses were still cute.
