New beginnings | The Secret Life of a Glider Pilot

The Secret Life of a Glider Pilot. Adventures of a female glider pilot in Yorkshire. April 29, 2014. It’s been a while since I last wrote here… and that’s mainly because I’ve had nothing to write about really. The glider has gone to a good owner based at Dunstable, and will no doubt be seen ranging far and wide over the South of England for years to come. I wish Rupert the best of luck and flying. The LS7 is very similar to my LS6, the essential differences being the wing-section and span, lack of flaps,...

The Secret Life of a Glider Pilot. Adventures of a female glider pilot in Yorkshire. March 6, 2015. One of my regular readers recently pointed out that I hadn’t posted anything for some time, and wondered whether I was still flying and/or instructing. Well, the simple answer is that I would still like to fly, and do try to on occasions, but have been defeated recently by the weather, family, work, and most recently DIY. Yes, you read it correctly. D.I.Y. Oh, and sadly I no longer have a glider to fly😦.

The Secret Life of a Glider Pilot. Adventures of a female glider pilot in Yorkshire. Adventures in an LS7. May 19, 2014. I really should have done the sensible thing and spun the glider on this first flight, so that I was aware of its characteristics, but I was too busy having fun! I decided to save that for the next flight. Gradually I worked my way up to 6,400 feet. After that, I tested the glider’s stall speed at different angles of bank, did some mush-stalling, and some side-slipping, none of w...

The Secret Life of a Glider Pilot. Adventures of a female glider pilot in Yorkshire. Outlanding stories: Wet wet wet at Pickering. January 7, 2014. It’s funny how my most memorable landouts seem to happen when flying competition tasks. Whether it’s because the tasks are sent into more unfamiliar territory, or that I push myself further, I don’t know. But here’s another one from a couple of years back. We all left the field with a huge sigh of relief, as you might imagine. It just goes to show, even when ...

The Secret Life of a Glider Pilot. Adventures of a female glider pilot in Yorkshire. Outlanding stories: Bird-watching in Hampshire. December 19, 2013. I’ve just logged in to my blog and am amazed at the stats. You lot must have nothing better to do at the moment, judging by the number of views of my blog! But thanks for reading😉. I have my share of those tales. Because it’s Winter, nearly Christmas, and we’re all bored, here’s one such tale from my collection. I picked a massive field, which had a Tumu...
