In 2011, the Eastern Creek. UR-3R Facility reached the milestone of processing over 1,000,000 tonnes of household waste. Over 600,000 t CO2-e of emissions have been avoided so far by the Eastern Creek UR-3R Facility. The $100 million Eastern Creek UR-3R Facility was established in 2004 and is the largest alternative waste treatment (AWT) facility in the Southern Hemisphere. It employs 80 people and has a 25 year contract to process 220,000 tonnes of household waste per annum.
