thoughts on Revit Architecture, BIM and how they change everything
September | 2008 | Zooming with Revit
https://gmcdowelljr.wordpress.com/2008/09
Thoughts on Revit Architecture, BIM and how they change everything. September 15, 2008. I’ve been thinking about how we work. About collaboration and what makes it work when it works. I think I’m on to something that I’ve been trying to understand for years. Collaboration, as seems to be defined by my colleagues, is a sequence of. If that’s true then how can we call what we do, when we isolate ourselves from others (headphones on, intently focused on our screens), collaboration? Here’s the catch, i...
Geek: Definition | Zooming with Revit
https://gmcdowelljr.wordpress.com/2008/05/30/geek-definition
Thoughts on Revit Architecture, BIM and how they change everything. Found this awhile back at gapingvoid.com. I think it helps make it okay to be a geek. I think it suggests that it’s essential that you be a geek about something. 8220;My definition of a geek is, “Somebody who socializes via objects.”. Whatever industry you are in, there’s somebody who is geeked out about your product category. They are using your product [or a competitor’s product] as a Social Object. Laquo; Previous Post. I will definit...
Collaboration as it Could Be | Zooming with Revit

Thoughts on Revit Architecture, BIM and how they change everything. Collaboration as it Could. To continue from the last. For those of us who are not artists, who cannot and should not rely on raw inspiration to achieve success, we need to find a way to work that pulls from the best of those around us and allows for immediate feedback on an idea. March | 2009 | Zooming with Revit
https://gmcdowelljr.wordpress.com/2009/03
Thoughts on Revit Architecture, BIM and how they change everything. March 13, 2009. Today’s business world is beginning to reward those with a niche. Service industries become a commodity when they take on any job that comes their way regardless of what it means or how it will impact their industry and business in the long run. I think that’s a mistake. Is it a lot of work? Yeah, of course it is, but it’s worth it in the long run. Posted by Greg McDowell Jr. Blog archives for March, 2009. Get every new p...

Architecture In 3Dimensions - A BIM Blog / Revit BLOG. Wednesday, January 23, 2008. Revit Architecture and Max. Recently, I rendered my first Revit. While I had extensive previous experience with Autodesk. Viz, I had only used AutoCAD. Models in the Viz environment. I have rendered many Revit. And have been able to tweak the settings enough to get very decent models. On this rendering though, we wanted to create a nightime. Rendering and that was something that you can not create well in Accurender.

On Christmas Eve I will be uploading an Add-In for Revit that will help you more quickly create sheets with significantly less clicks. In fact, it somewhat provides a solution for #10 of the AUGI Revit Wishlist given to Autodesk this year at AU2009. Check out http:/ jasongrant.squarespace.com/. For an early Holiday gift on Christmas Eve and I hope everyone has a Happy Holiday. Converting ...
BIM Manager: Navisworks Keyboard Shortcuts for blazing fast clash reviews

Monday, December 12, 2011. Navisworks Keyboard Shortcuts for blazing fast clash reviews. Navisworks is a powerful tool and a very important part of our workflow, but as we dove deeper into Navisworks I realized it was an incredibly slow process working through all the unimportant clashes to focus on what really matters. These shortcuts are specifically aimed at making the clash review process as effecient as possible (I have a feeling this going to make a lot of people VERY happy). For this to work!

Tuesday, November 23, 2010. Autodesk Quantity Takeoff 2011…move along folks, nothing to see here. I’ve been patiently waiting for a new release of QTO, which finally came out yesterday; a mere 7 months off of Autodesk’s release cycle for the rest of their software. I figured they must be doing great things with all the time they’ve had to work on the product right? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Autodesk Quantity Takeoff 2011…move along folks, n. BIM Manager: Revit Grids in Navisworks, Part Deux
http://bimmanager.blogspot.com/2009/03/revit-grids-in-navisworks-part-deux.html
Wednesday, March 11, 2009. Revit Grids in Navisworks, Part Deux. I originally posted this a year and a half ago, my how time flies. Http:/ bimmanager.blogspot.com/2007/10/revit-grids-in-navisworks.html. Since then I've found those grids to be fairly ineffective, it takes way too much time trying to select the grid to get into the properties. Setting it up in Revit has not changed, so follow the instructions from the original post. It can be downloaded here. December 13, 2010 at 3:50 PM. I am able to load...

http://bimmanager.blogspot.com/2011_07_18_archive.html
Monday, July 18, 2011. Navisworks items worth re-posting. First off I didn’t even know about the blog Beyond Design until very recently; check it out, loads of good information. One of their latest posts is extremely important about inaccurate clash results. I tested this and the conservative test came up with many more results that simply didn’t show up with the traditional hard clash test (very disconcerting). Another good post is from Dwane’s blog which talks about clashes showing up grey. Revit in pl...
BIM Manager: Revit Launcher
http://bimmanager.blogspot.com/2010/12/revit-launcher.html
Tuesday, December 21, 2010. This program is used to create a local file automatically, open the file in Revit with the option to Specify worksets, Detach from central, etc. The Revit Launcher.exe can be placed in the same folder as the central file, but I would recommend putting it in one location on your network. There can only be one Revit file in this folder. The name of the central file must be XXXXX #VV Central.rvt, where XXXXX can be anything of any length, # is the discipline. When you click OK a ...
BIM Manager: Nov 12, 2010
http://bimmanager.blogspot.com/2010_11_12_archive.html
Friday, November 12, 2010. I haven’t seen this posted anywhere else besides a tweet that Beau sent out the other day. This is too exciting to not be talked about. This should help reduce the cost of laser scanning since previously you generally had to rely on the scanning company to convert the point cloud to a model in AutoCAD. I have not tried it yet so I can’t speak to it’s usability but I am excited to find a project to use it on. I just signed up for the blogger social event at AU. My focus will be ...
