Ten with Tom: A New Car
http://tenwithtom.blogspot.com/2007/03/new-car.html
Tom from TenwithTom.com's photos. Listen now, clicky here. Thursday, March 29, 2007. So we bought a new car. My wife and I thought we'd stroll down the dozen or so car-yards of Main Rd, Cardiff (NSW Australia) and have a bit of a squizz at what's on offer and for how much and in what colours. A car salesman roams aound like a lion. A sort of stealthy lion in sunglasses and a hat. Dressed almost. Perfectly (the socks give them away, you see). Oh yes, they smell great too (the new cars, not the salespeople).

Lou Johnston got shot in the abdomen during a bank robbery. He survived with the help of a shady doctor, but after three weeks he still hurts. Not a nice man to begin with, the pain is making him worse. His girlfriend, Norma, who takes the brunt of his ill temper, is caring for him. Posted by Bob @ 6:27 AM. I have a halloween. The Last...

The Short Of It. Saturday, December 18, 2004. Dave Zeltzerman, editor of Hardluck Stories. Has just started his own blog at A Hardluck Writer. Posted by Bob @ 7:31 PM. Ice Storm" by Helen Tucker, Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, January 2005. This story follows a petty criminal as he tries to take advantage of what he sees as the opportunity of a lifetime. Ms Tucker is a competent writer. There were no speed bumps to throw me out of the story. The plot builds logically and naturally. I don't feel that en...

The Short Of It: Dress Blues by Michael A. Black

The Short Of It. Tuesday, May 03, 2005. Dress Blues by Michael A. Black. By Michael A. Black,. PI Ron Shade is looking for a runaway boy. The boy, Manuel, had a behavior problem, he was getting into trouble and trying to get into a local gang, the Spanish Tigers. His mother, with the help of a family friend, got him enrolled in the Woodsen Academy, a military school. Manuel had disappeared from the school. I also liked the way Mr. Black led Shade to build his case step by step, many of them false, le...

The Short Of It. Saturday, January 01, 2005. By Michael Wiecek, Hardluck Stories. Man, it seems like everything I'm reviewing lately has something to do with families. That's OK. Families provide almost unlimited opportunities for murder and mayhem. The stories I like most among those I've written have had to do fathers and daughters, mothers and sons. Angie wants Joe to do a little favor for him. The favor is not a particularly big deal for brothers. How the favor turns out makes the story. He is also o...

The Short Of It. Thursday, May 05, 2005. Blood Ties by Tim Wohlforth. By Tim Wohlforth,. Loving, nurturing, caring mother. A perfect story to read just before Mother’s Day. Or it would be if the mother involved had any of the characteristics listed above. Our Hero (hereinafter designated OH), an unnamed PI, goes into his favorite watering hole and is told his mother is waiting for him. Not the mother who raised, loved and nurtured him since he was three years old. His birth mother. In order to impress hi...

The Short Of It. Saturday, December 04, 2004. By Ray Banks,. Noir, great suspense, and a twist (that's an unexpected reversal of expectations, not a woman). Nope, no women in this one other than the odd passerby, but that doesn't hurt the story at all. What we have here is a bored bureaucrat in a dead end job seeking excitement. And boy does he get it. I don't know what a cringe combined with a delighted grin looks like but my wife does. She's still watching me out of the corner of her eye. By David Cox,.

The Short Of It. Saturday, January 15, 2005. Good News for Short Fiction. I noticed on Clint Gaige's. That his best selling book for 2004 was Chesapeake Crimes. An anthology of crime stories.
