About - Greasy Creek Pottery

http://www.greasycreekpottery.com/about.html

Then life happened and I did not do much with clay for about 20 years. Three years ago I retired from software and moved to Philomath, Oregon. Since then I have taken classes from Jay Widmer. At the Benton Center (part of the Linn-Benton Community College) in Corvallis, Oregon . I have built my own studio and wood fired kiln. I currently create works at the Benton Center and in my studio, and occasionally fire with Jay at his Alsea Anagama. Opening the kiln is a surprise. Control is an illusion.

Kiln - Greasy Creek Pottery

http://www.greasycreekpottery.com/kiln.html

The kiln at Greasy Creek Pottery is a slightly modified version of the Manabigama kiln designed by John Thies ( Manabigama Pottery Center. I chose this kiln because it is small enough for one person to fill and fire and gives good wood fired effects. It was designed to fire in 12 hours, but I fire for 24 hours and usually work with two or three other potters. This makes firing easier, more fun, and allows us to fire more often. Many thanks to Jeff Richards and Richard Kuensting for their help in building.
