One Vermonter's Journey into Genealogy and Family History. Friday, September 27, 2013. Follow Friday – The Book of Me. I’ve been seeing the title “The Book of Me, Written by You” pop up in various readings over the last few days. Last night, I decided to check out exactly what it was all about. Julie Goucher at Anglers Rest. Has kicked off an interesting idea: Tell your story, from your point of view, for future generations. The basic concept is that each week Julie will post a prompt or question. For th...

One Vermonter's Journey into Genealogy and Family History. Friday, June 28, 2013. Friday Fears – Ancestry’s “New Search”. It’s been an interesting few days on the APG mailing list. Has announced that it will end access to its “old search”. This means that all users will have to use “new search”. Before I go any further, for those who don’t follow Ancestry, “new search” has been in place for years, so it’s not really all that new. They come up with a new product, and end support for the old version. As a ...

One Vermonter's Journey into Genealogy and Family History. Friday, October 4, 2013. Friday Founding – The Start of My Life. Of The Book of Me is “Your Birth”. I don’t have many baby pictures of myself. I know I’ve seen a few, but somehow they haven’t come into my possession. The photo shown here is of my family, about 5 months after my birth. We’re standing in front of my grandmother’s house, which was just below the house that my parents built when my sister was small. The stocking, apparently, was a gi...

The book in which the certificate was hiding was entitled Physical Geography. A mistake many of us make when writing the date at the beginning of a new year. I think it is amazin...

Ancestors in the Attic: July 2013
http://ancestorsattic.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 15, 2013. Mystery Monday: Gottlieb Gerlinger. Today's mystery comes not from the attic, but the basement of the Kosciusko County Historical Society in Warsaw, Kosciusko County, Indiana. The recently discovered documents of Gottlieb Gerlinger had nothing to do with Kosciusko County or even Indiana. As a volunteer at the Kosciusko County Historical Society Library, I was asked to do research so that the documents could be given to his next of kin. Place, Chicago, Illinois. It referenced 30...

Monday, September 17, 2012. Kosciusko County, Indiana. Frankie A Elliott - Hillcrest Cemetery. It is often said that all good things must come to an end. Sadly, my husband and I recently left beautiful Salt Lake City and the largest genealogy library in the world, and relocated to Warsaw, Indiana, where he will be working for a medical device company. Fortunately, Warsaw is 45 minutes away from Fort Wayne and the Allen County Library, which houses the SECOND largest genealogy library in the world!
