Salty / Savory / Sweet. Sit Feast on your life.". Wednesday, July 13, 2011. Diner favorites with a twist at Sam's No. 3. Sam's No. 3. ES was enticed to order the "One of Each" option under the Coney Island Specials menu—a quarter pound burger and a split, grilled hot dog each topped with mustard, onion, and a thin red chili. Not a bad deal for six bucks. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). New York, NY, United States. View my complete profile. I ♥ . Yellow Cake, No Frosting. Vip in the city.

Salty / Savory / Sweet: Neighborhood Korean at Al Bae Nae
http://saltysavorysweet.blogspot.com/2011/07/neighborhood-korean-food-at-al-bae-nae.html
Salty / Savory / Sweet. Sit Feast on your life.". Tuesday, July 5, 2011. Neighborhood Korean at Al Bae Nae. ES and I discovered Al Bae Nae. Back in winter, a Korean restaurant tucked away in a small Aurora strip mall next to M Mart. Not to be confused with H Mart. And the intriguing Havana Spa. Then there was Al Bae Nae's tteokbokki: chewy cylinders of rice cake paired with red peppers, scallions, onions, cut-up hot dogs, and fish cake and simmered in a gochujang. Based sauce. It was sweeter and less...

Salty / Savory / Sweet: Hard-boiled: Soy sauce eggs and tea eggs
http://saltysavorysweet.blogspot.com/2009/03/hard-boiled-soy-sauce-eggs-and-tea-eggs.html
Salty / Savory / Sweet. Sit Feast on your life.". Friday, March 6, 2009. Hard-boiled: Soy sauce eggs and tea eggs. There's no reason for tea eggs to be a special occasion recipe, however—the process is dead easy and the ingredient list is simple. I tried to follow Jaden's directions over at Steamy Kitchen. But because I had to leave out the cinnamon stick and star anise ( I still haven't stocked my spice rack. It's funny, but Jen at Use Real Butter. Just wrote a post about eating soy sauce eggs as a kid.

Salty / Savory / Sweet: A very merry broccoli salad
http://saltysavorysweet.blogspot.com/2008/10/very-merry-broccoli-salad.html
Salty / Savory / Sweet. Sit Feast on your life.". Tuesday, October 7, 2008. A very merry broccoli salad. Years ago, I attended an intimate holiday dinner in Rego Park, Queens for which I was forced to show up alone and not knowing a single person there, including the host. The person who had invited me—the one who did. If you'd like to lighten this up, I think subbing in yogurt for part of the mayo would work just fine, though I haven't tried it myself. Anyway, I mixed up a batch for a potluck in the fir...

Salty / Savory / Sweet: China Taipei, bringing home to the table
http://saltysavorysweet.blogspot.com/2011/08/china-taipei-bringing-home-to-table.html
Salty / Savory / Sweet. Sit Feast on your life.". Wednesday, August 10, 2011. China Taipei, bringing home to the table. In America, Taiwanese food isn't always easy to come by. Even a large city like New York has just about a handful of restaurants specializing in the cuisine, and not all of them are the best that they can be. So it was a great delight to discover China Taipei. While it might be cliche to describe a dish as comfort food, I found each bite deeply soothing, homey, and familiar—and if...

Salty / Savory / Sweet: Cutting the cake
http://saltysavorysweet.blogspot.com/2008/12/cutting-cake.html
Salty / Savory / Sweet. Sit Feast on your life.". Sunday, December 28, 2008. When I came downstairs bearing Deb at Smitten Kitchen's carrot cake recipe. As a base for the pumpkin cake we were about to make, my dad took one look at the measurements and shook his head. "Two cups of sugar for two cups of flour? Four large eggs and one-and-a-quarter cups of oil? Cups of flour.". By Soopling and Dad. 3 cups all-purpose flour. 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda. 1 teaspoon baking powder. 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon.

Salty / Savory / Sweet: A broken heart, and then forgiveness, at Tao Tao Noodle Bar
http://saltysavorysweet.blogspot.com/2011/06/broken-heart-and-then-forgiveness-at.html
Salty / Savory / Sweet. Sit Feast on your life.". Monday, June 20, 2011. A broken heart, and then forgiveness, at Tao Tao Noodle Bar. We had high expectations for Tao Tao Noodle Bar. Especially once we read that they were serving Taiwanese breakfast. But was breadier and had less flavor—with a fried egg inside. No salt, no sauces, no seasoning; some scallions dotted the landscape, but raised no actual flags. By then I suspected nothing coming out of the kitchen would be that great—I'd been broken&#...

Salty / Savory / Sweet. Sit Feast on your life.". Monday, June 29, 2009. San Francisco, Day 4: El Tonyayense, Pica Pica Maize Kitchen, Bi-Rite Creamery, Pagolac. As if to make up for only eating at two places the day before, GQ, BH, and I started my fourth day in San Francisco by hitting up the Carnaval. Street fair in the Mission District, where there promised to be eats aplenty. GQ did better with her purchase of a "maize'wich" from the Pica Pica Maize Kitchen. It was a long walk back from the Mission ...

Salty / Savory / Sweet: Brought to you by the letter B: Blueberry Banana Bread
http://saltysavorysweet.blogspot.com/2009/07/triple-bs-blueberry-banana-bread.html
Salty / Savory / Sweet. Sit Feast on your life.". Thursday, July 16, 2009. Brought to you by the letter B: Blueberry Banana Bread. Remember my issue with flat baked goods. I have no idea how I achieved this one, but I managed to bake a loaf of banana-blueberry bread that rose up beautifully. I almost didn't want to cut into it, lest it should somehow deflate. I used a recipe somewhat modified from Dozen Flour's. I also sprinkled pearl sugar. 1/2 cup salted butter, softened. 2 eggs, at room temperature.
