Until the North Ford Causeway was opened in 1960 by The Queen Mother, Grimsay was only accessible by tidal fords and small open boats. Immediately after leaving the main island of North Uist (heading south) over the causeway to the island of Grimsay, take the first turning on the left in the direction of Kallin harbour.
