Dog Tricks - Kisses. In the early years, Gromette thought that "kisses" meant "bite my nose", and the trick was practiced only with much temerity on my part. Only with the mellowing of time has she fallen into a routine of gently tapping my nose. Hold a treat near your nose. Say "kisses" and tap your nose. Dog Tricks - Jump Over Stuff. Jumping over stuff is fun! Especially if you are a JRT and you get to practice jumping over pillows. A word of caution, however, that I have had Gromette jump over another dog in the park many times successfully. But every once in a while, she misjudges and lands on the other dog. Dog Tricks - Backflip. I would not recommend teaching a larger breed to do this. The trick is to have your dog jump off of you and do a back flip before landing back on the ground. Hold a treat high up in front of you, and project one leg slightly forward so that your dog will see that as a launch platform. Pat your chest and give your command. "Backflip" is a good choice. Let her get the treat sometimes. Eventually, you'll be able to have your dog to do a backflip on command. Back to home page.

Dog Tricks - Magic Quarter Trick. Instead of a quarter, use a treat and flip it from one hand the other. Always flip the treat to the same hand. Hold both hands out to your dog. Your dog will probably smell the treat and will point with her nose at the hand with the treat. Open your hand and give your dog the treat and lots of praise. Do this a lot. When you are ready, move to doing it with the quarter instead, givng a treat afterward for selecting the correct hand. Back to home page.
