The CBC and Me. The CBC and Me. One of a series of posts about working at CBC Radio back in the day. Here’s some more). Mix/Minus CBC V June 17, 2012. From Fall to Christmas 1988 I spent my time at CBC Radio both observing and working in studios, learning the tricks of the trade. I did basic bookings, simple recordings, a lot of what are called Two-Ways. I said to the producer, You’ll have to excuse me for a moment, it may take me a couple of minutes to find the right patch point. Notify me of new posts ...

The CBC and Me. The CBC and Me. One of a series of posts about working at CBC Radio back in the day. Here’s some more). I took a taxi home one day. The cab driver was listening to 680 on the AM dial, which used to be CFTR in Toronto. Maybe it still is. Do people still listen to AM, I wondered? I said, What is that you’re listening to? He said, Dunno. News and stuff. I like to hear the news. Do you ever listen to CBC Radio? I asked, just for fun. He said, What’s that? Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Mdash; Up...

Net Testing: CBC II May 22, 2012. It was a brilliant speech. I don’t think it was at all pre-meditated; Ron was the kind of guy who said what was on his mind, usually loudly. The other guys in Master Control (MCR for short) called him Boomer . The biggest surprise to me was that there was math involved in this work, integ...

The CBC and Me. The CBC and Me. The Story of Q. One of a series of posts about working at CBC Radio back in the day. Here’s some more). This is a repost of a speech I gave to Ryerson students in 2008 about the creation of the CBC Radio show “Q”:. How many of you think the CBC is a bank? And then you need to keep it. So the story I’m going to tell you is the story of Q. Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. So I told my b...

The CBC and Me. The CBC and Me. Originally published in The Sword Review 2005. The shopkeeper consulted his parchment, then counted on his fingertips. That will be eight guild, if you please. We’ve been robbed, he announced. Keele Wren glanced up from the scroll he was perusing. Ah, he said. The irony. Tanner concluded that ‘irony’ must be another word for amulet. Safe, he said. We only lost the coin. Keele arched an eyebrow. Against theft, loss, that sort of thing? Tanner ripped the severed drawstring f...

Karen's Home on the Blog. Fiber, Gardens, Love, Life - not necessarily in any order. Wednesday, July 13, 2011. Apparently the search for a Viking Age harbour in Slite didn't pan out. There was no evidence in any of our finds - many mixed layers, and history all over the modern period. I`ll try to remember to take pictures of the walk in, it`s actually quite a pleasant combination of field and forest. Today was a good day - we found a tiny spiral of silver wire. A piece of decorated pottery. Week 2 starte...
