Sunday, 1 December 2013. The Times-"True Blue Brotherhood" -live at The Living Room 28.1.84. GROOVY BLACK SHADES: GBS TOP TENS

http://groovyblackshades.blogspot.com/2013/10/gbs-top-tens.html

Thursday, 10 October 2013. One of the things amost every fanzine ever written has had in common was the Top Ten. Provided by either the editor or one the bands interviewed inside it would be a list of the tracks that they were listening to tracks they wanted you to listen to,tracks that they were listening to that they wanted you to know they were listening to. you get the picture? Well GROOVYBLACKSHADES was no different. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A Scene In Between by Sam Knee review. Tom Grah...

GROOVY BLACK SHADES: the who odds and sods

http://groovyblackshades.blogspot.com/2013/07/the-who-odds-and-sods.html

Monday, 22 July 2013. The who odds and sods. I haven't been able to listen to any music on my way to and from work for the last couple of weeks thanks to an ear problem. All better now,so last night I let my trusty shuffle setting decide what album I should listen to. This is what it gave me:. I loved the artwork as well-the cut-out sleeve, the Braille, the insert with typical Pete Townshend track by track notes-the whole thing was a great artifact before you even got to the music! The who odds and sods.

GROOVY BLACK SHADES: 5-6-7-CREATE!

http://groovyblackshades.blogspot.com/2013/07/5-6-7-create.html

Thursday, 18 July 2013. Why sell it when you can give it away"- I think that was a lyric in a Desperate Bicycles song, but even if it isn't it sums up what I did with my fanzine Groovy Black Shades. I would give it away at gigs and run into shops like Virgin, when it was in The Tricorn Centre or HMV, when it was just about the music maaaan! And leave a bundle of copies of the latest issue on the counter. Issue No.7-massive Nikki Sudden interview, bits on The Times,The Psstels,Barracudas,Nikki Sudden,Jas...

GROOVY BLACK SHADES: GBS008-Paul Groovy's Head mixcast

http://groovyblackshades.blogspot.com/2013/05/gbs008-paul-groovys-head-mixcast.html

Wednesday, 15 May 2013. GBS008-Paul Groovy's Head mixcast. Ok, here's the thing.this show was put together with idea of me voicing the links between some of the tracks-hey just like a real d.j-however.my mic isn't working so I can't record to the PC so no links. All is not lost though. It gives me an excuse to write a new blog with the track listing and maybe stuff about the tracks(or maybe not! So I have uploaded it sans Groovy and it sounds GREAT. So treat it like a radio station.TURN! Do you remember ...

Down With Tractors: The Cradle "It's Too High" (Rough Trade Records, 1987)

http://downwithtractors.blogspot.com/2008/07/cradle-its-too-high-rough-trade-records.html

Being the various and varied musical influences and explorations of a musician, DJ and social networker from London. Friday, 11 July 2008. The Cradle "It's Too High" (Rough Trade Records, 1987). The 80's were a great time for agit. As far as agit. Pop goes, one record really sums up the time: "Whistling In the Dark" by Easterhouse. A Cherry Red compilation which I can heartily recommend. However, less is known about the band that followed Easterhouse. First gig in London was supporting The Smiths at ULU.

Being the various and varied musical influences and explorations of a musician, DJ and social networker from London. Wednesday, 18 June 2008. Pablo "Madeleina" (Long Version) (Island Records 12", 1981). Boys on the front cover as Billy Bragg, Peel could play Scientist next to Orange Juice and we wouldn't bat an eyelid. Some time in the late eighties, all this started to change. Record shops became all about the volume, not the variety. A visit to a new " Megastore. Would reveal huge long racks of CD's.

Being the various and varied musical influences and explorations of a musician, DJ and social networker from London. Friday, 7 December 2007. Shop Assistants "Safety Net" (unreleased rough mix for single) (53rd and 3rd, 1985). There's a story behind this particular song, and it's here, in all its glory. I do ramble on a bit, but look at that time! I think alcohol may have been involved. As it says in the blog post. I got this tape on a Saturday. Shop Assistants "Safety Net" (Rough Mix) (mp3). Being the various and varied musical influences and explorations of a musician, DJ and social networker from London. Saturday, 29 March 2008. Urban Rhythm "Luv Will make It Right" (Strictly Rhythm Records, 1991). Let's place this record in some sort of context, shall we? It's 1991. My career as a musician is at its height. I'm a member of a highly successful indie rock band. And what am I listening to? Maybe some Carter USM. Any of the other indie rockers filling the pages of the Melody maker or the NME.

Baby Yeh) (Original "Un-EQ'ed" Mix) (Rhythm King Records 12", 1988). Lots of the tunes on this site have that feeling of Zeitgeist about them, a connection to a place, time, or perhaps both. More than any other, this particular tune is forever locked into it's time. Thanks for that Iain my 12" copy of the 2nd mix is scratched to bugge...

But, I'm also going to have a little experiment. I've been immersing myself in lots of different forms of social media of late, chiefly Twitter and Friendfeed. So, I've decided to start up a "Down With Tractors" Room. I'd be interested in any feedback you've got; let me know! Links to this post. Labels: twitter friendfeed blog. Links to this post.
