Grow Our Own ~ an ecotherapy and allotment blog: June 2015
https://growourown.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
An Ecotherapy and Allotment Blog. What is an Allotment? Allotmentherapy - The Wisdom of Plants. Tuesday, 30 June 2015. I made it to the allotments (despite my nervousness and hayfever), for the first time I've in goodness knows how many weeks. And boy did it feel good! A lot has changed in my time away and if I simply focus in on our plots, the change has been impressive and productive. The less said about those plots around us, the better. That's a white sky that won't quit! So the main jobs this Saturd...

An Ecotherapy and Allotment Blog. What is an Allotment? Allotmentherapy - The Wisdom of Plants. Thursday, 23 July 2015. Today* I have lived inside a big dizzily rain cloud, metaphorically and meteorologically. It's not been fun. At these low light levels I'm like a little Livingstone daisy and stay all shut up, my colours hidden away just as those outside are so dulled and touched with grey. So to shake me out of this terrible funk I thought I'd talk about one of my favourite subjects - my hubby. If you ...

An Ecotherapy and Allotment Blog. What is an Allotment? Allotmentherapy - The Wisdom of Plants. Thursday, 28 May 2015. Happiness on the plots. So here's how things stand at the moment on 24a (minus a photo of the leeks which are still going strong). We have new lovely little parsnips, carrots and beetroots, the broccoli is in glorious flower now and attracting the first bees I've seen this year and the spuds are coming through nicely and look healthier than I could have hoped for. Look at the new bed for...

An Ecotherapy and Allotment Blog. What is an Allotment? Allotmentherapy - The Wisdom of Plants. Friday, 7 August 2015. Tomatoes for a change, we usually only grow Gardener's Delight. See now, I have actually come outside with my camera to prove to you that these plants are bonkers full of new fruits and really that's just a flavour, a couple of close ups :) Can you tell I'm pleased? We haven't picked any yet as they're still small but they sure look good and so shiny :). These are either Sharps' express.

An Ecotherapy and Allotment Blog. What is an Allotment? Allotmentherapy - The Wisdom of Plants. Thursday, 7 May 2015. I've missed you so much. There is simply too much to catch up on and I don't know where to begin. See previous post! My latest write ups have been eaten by Blogger and are in some sort of terrible blog post purgatory *sad face*. At 24a everything is going grand and we shall find that we are eating loads of Purple Sprouting Broccoli (not complaining! Plus I have been a bad ass grass cuttin...

Gardening in a small space. Hoping for the best but fearing the worst. September 1, 2013. When we left for our holiday last Saturday, the cat was packed off to a cattery and I’d done all I could to prepare the garden for us not to be around. By Sunday evening I was suffering from separation anxiety! We spent our week in Somerset, near Burnham on Sea in a lodge on a farm. If I share some photos, I can write less. The view from our kitchen window. Oh well, back to normality. September 1, 2013 at 12:54 pm.

Gardening in a small space. Monthly Archives: September, 2013. No shortage of tomatoes. September 29, 2013. Well, I’m really just down to my last tomatoes in the garden which are green which I think I will probably pick and decide what to do with over the next few days, either chutney or ripen them indoors. Put the oven on at about 100 oC, nice and low. Cut a “v” to remove the centre. This is where a good deal of patience helps. dry them for 10-12 hours! Turn the tomatoes over about half way through.
Patchy Growth: Some progress of our own

In which we grow veg on our allotment to the best of our wit, eat out a bit and generally write about food related affairs. Based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Lovely things to do. Tuesday, 24 March 2015. Some progress of our own. It seemed only fair. The best is yet to plum. The soil here is fairly manageable and as the bushes and tree have been planted at the top of a steep bank, should be free draining. We'll need to give them a regular drink to try and coax them into life in their new home. 25 March 2015 a...

Can Do, Can’t Do. Love It, Hate It. Watching nature take its course, from the top of a hill in northern England. July 30, 2015. We’re back again, in south Devon, for the 14th consecutive summer. Its just as beautiful as ever. Mr Uphilldowndale snapped these fish on his way to get the morning paper. Can Do, Can’t Do. Love It, Hate It. Watching nature take its course, from the top of a hill in northern England. Can Do, Can’t Do. Can’t do; sing, but it doesn’t stop me trying; my son sums it up most eloquently, ‘Its not that you can’t sing mum, it’s just that you don’t sing very well.’. Can do; dance, well I just have to dance, I can’t keep my feet still, as for whether or not my dancing is any good? Well dancing is an art; it’s subjective and ‘don’t stop me now, cos I’m having a good time.’. Don’...

Saturday, 7 February 2015. Back In The Game! What have have we done? Signed up for a new allotment, that's what! Or, rather, we've signed up for what will, at some point in the future, be an allotment. Right now it's a bramble-strewn former pigeon loft dumping ground. But, in its favour, it's our. ALLOTMENTS, HIKING AND ALL THINGS GOOD. What is an Allotment? Allotmentherapy - The Wisdom of Plants. What we'll grow - 2018. 8 Reasons to hike. Wednesday, 14 March 2018. We had a very sneaky little 50 min attack on the plot again recently, whilst the sun was shining and the sky was blue. Naturally it was all about the weeding again but it was great and as it's dark, pouring and cold today, I am super glad we went. Nice day for a potter :). Bed was all little surface weeds whereas mine. So what can one d...
