Photographs of Spain: July 2012
http://bovingtonphotosofspain.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, July 21, 2012. In 711 an army of 7000 under the command of the Berber Tarik-ibn-Zehad crossed the Straits of Gibraltar and defeated Roderic the Visigothic King of Hispania. The Muslim armies swept through Hispania and conquered Toledo which was then the capital of the Visigothic kingdom. This marked the beginning of Muslim domination of a large chunk of the Iberian Peninsula. At that juncture, Al-Andalus was merely a province of the Umayyad Caliphate of Damascus. Tuesday, June 25, 2013. La noche de San Juan 23 Junio 2013, Roquetas de Mar. On the night of San Juan, 23 June, the people of Spain commemorate the Summer Solstice by lighting bonfires and fireworks. The celebrations are of pagan origin. One of the rituals is to leap over the fires, which allegedly brings good luck for the rest of the year. On this particular night, there was a full moon and a particularly larger one than normal. The Moon over Roquetas. More blogs by Robert Bovington. A grumpy old man in.

Sunday, December 2, 2012. Enix - a pueblo blanco in the Sierra de Gádor. Immediately behind Roquetas is the Sierra de Gádor mountain range – it is a twenty minute drive to Enix, one of my favourite pueblos blancos. To the northwest is Spain's highest mountain range, the Sierra Nevada, whose southern slopes are dotted with the charming white villages of the Alpujarras. Enix © Robert Bovington.
