Lake and Chester Junctions - Then and Now. DL&W, Wharton and Northern. At Lake Junction, the Wharton and Northern, later a part of the CNJ's High Bridge Branch, crossed the DL&W's Chester Branch. About a hundred feet over, the Chester branch terminated at its connection with the Boonton Line, then the Lackawanna's high speed freight main. The Lackawanna recognized both of these as a part of Chester Junction. This is more or less what the yard looks like today. The cars at right are stored there by th...

The Great Lackawanna Cutoff - Then and Now. The approach signal for Port Morris. Junction at Brooklyn-Stanhope Road. Only one curve, most likely the aforementioned curve at Slateford, exceeded two degrees of curvature. While the last rails were pulled up in the mid-1980s, New Jersey Transit recently purchased the right of way with the hope of relieving congestion on Interstate 80, possibly extending service as far as Scranton. We sure hope to see it back in operation in the near future! The Lehigh and Ne...
