Waterfront modules: November 2011
http://ho-harbor.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, November 9, 2011. The concrete mixing plant part 3. Above is the structure assembled with only a few pipes left to add. The original Walthers structure had a closed storage bin with a number of pipes leading to the roof. I chose to remove the roof and add a home-made gravel distributing mechanism. The brace in front will hold up the conveyor structure. Here is an idea of how the whole structure will look minus the additional supports for the conveyor. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Waterfront modules: December 2011
http://ho-harbor.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Sunday, December 25, 2011. The image above shows how the PVC pipe fits up the top of the model. I wrapped masking tape around the ends of the model to reinforce it while I was repeatedly test fitting the tube. The tape will be removed later. The ring here is made of two layers of balsa wood glued crosswise for some strength. I'm only using it as a spacer at the bottom the the stack to keep the tube mostly centered . I used an adhesive laytex caulk the secure the spacer ring and tube into the model. Subsc...

Waterfront modules: Metro Concrete Company
http://ho-harbor.blogspot.com/2014/12/metro-concrete-company.html
Saturday, December 27, 2014. I have decided to name the cement mixing company on the Waterfront scene "Metro Concrete", and I needed a title for this post, so there it is. There will be a large model train show in Raleigh next month put on by "Worlds Greatest Hobby" on tour. And since my modules will be in a layout at the show I needed to get off my ass and get stuff done. Lastly, I want to be able to park a minimum of three covered hoppers on the siding, with one of them parked in the covered shed.

Waterfront modules: Metro Concrete Company Part II
http://ho-harbor.blogspot.com/2015/01/metro-concrete-company-part-ii.html
Saturday, January 10, 2015. Metro Concrete Company Part II. The last leg of ladder has yet to be installed. That will come after I attach the silo top. The top will have a railing around the perimeter. Next to do is top railing, some exterior lighting and final assembly then primer. The unloading shed was painted primer grey inside and out. A non-working light fixture will be attached just above the railcar doorway. Next for this is weathering and signage. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Waterfront modules: August 2011
http://ho-harbor.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 24, 2011. I picked up a Mini Metals trailer while at the spring Timonium trainshow. I though it would make a great storage trailer, all I need is some heavy weathering and some stairs. I used alchohol on the factory paint to remove most of the PIE logo and striping. I'll add the stairs once the trailer is in its permanant location. The only thing I'm lacking on the tractor are the air line and electrical connections. Although having a single mudflap would look right. The non-rail side o...

Waterfront modules: Metro Concrete Company part IV
http://ho-harbor.blogspot.com/2015/03/metro-concrete-company-part-iv.html
Sunday, March 1, 2015. Metro Concrete Company part IV. I found nice decal stripes for locomotives and decided they would look good on the steel columns at the bottom of the structure. I applied a little bit of a fade to the letters on this side. I applied more of a fade on this side because it would face west by south west. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Waterfront modules: Metro Concrete Company part III
http://ho-harbor.blogspot.com/2015/02/metro-concrete-company-part-iii.html
Wednesday, February 4, 2015. Metro Concrete Company part III. Progress on the cement storage silo. I managed to get the silo primed in time for the WGH show, so it looked better than in raw plastic. Just after the show the weather cooperated and I was able to paint the silo white. One the paint dried a couple of days I added the decals. I used some old 1/2" block gothic from Champ Decal company. (went out of business maybe 15 years ago? The results with be on the next post. Lance Mindheim .com.

Waterfront modules: Metro Concrete Company Part V weathering - step 1
http://ho-harbor.blogspot.com/2015/03/metro-concrete-company-part-v.html
Sunday, March 15, 2015. Metro Concrete Company Part V weathering - step 1. The rivet heads are the most tedious part of the weathering. I could probably spend months adding rust (2 colors) to each rivet head and then adding a small vertical rust streak going down from each rivet, but I would likely be insane when I finished. So this will have to be good enough. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Jeff's Grand Trunk Western - Flint Sub. Lance Mindheim .com. Model Railroad Hobbyist magazine.

Waterfront modules: July 2011
http://ho-harbor.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 14, 2011. Here are some images of the test fit of the carfloat apron. The first image shows a test fit to locate the actual apron on the module, before any piers or track subroadbed was built. The large piece of cardboard in the forground is the base template for the manufacturing plant. Also visible are centerlines for track. The bottom of the "A" frame can be seen in the background. In the image above you can see one of the pier decks raised above the lowered deck of frame "B".
