The teaching cuts come in light of the governor's proposed budget plan for the 2008-09 school year. Wednesday, April 16, 2008. Teacher of the Year Nominees Announced. At an April 10 board meeting, the GUHSD announced the new nominees for the Teacher of the Year award for the 2008-09 school year. The 10 nominees, from different schools within the district, were nominated by their peers and voted on by a committee of previous winners. The next step for Waldron and McDowell is the county level. If either of them win there, they will be moved forward to the state level, and then the national level.
