About | Surviving Grad School
https://guidetogradschoolsurvival.wordpress.com/about
I’m a PhD student in Computer Science. I’ve been a grad student since September 2007. I completed my Masters before deciding to tackle a PhD. I have been a teaching assistant (ran labs, marked assignments, answered questions) for three semesters (two in my first year, and this past semester) for three very different courses. The first course was a first year course, the second was a fourth year course and the third was a grad course. Click to email (Opens in new window). One thought on “ About. I'm a 5th...

Revisions, Revisions, Revisions. March 25, 2015. So many revisions. I’m making progress, although it doesn’t always feel that way. And this week is rushing by so fast. So much to do, no where near enough time. Oh well, I’m still optimistic that I can get everything in for the deadline. It’s just going to be a lot of busy days leading up to it. Yikes, yesterday was Wednesday? March 19, 2015. I don’t mean to be falling behind on posts, but the last couple of weeks have been passing by in a blur. I defend my PhD tomorrow (Friday – eek) and have been focused on getting ready for that, while also dealing with pressing startup issues. Click to email (Opens in new window). I’m just waiting for the official “okay” on my thesis from the university (they have to check it for formatting). Fingers crossed I get it this morning and then pretty much everything will be behind me. Of time). And the coding is where I would prefer to be working. Click to email (Opens in new window). Climbing a mountain | Surviving Grad School
https://guidetogradschoolsurvival.wordpress.com/2015/04/08/climbing-a-mountain
April 8, 2015. I have heard people describe a PhD as climbing a mountain (usually Mount Everest). The comparison was first explained in terms of “you don’t do a PhD for any other reason than to show that you can, the same reason people climb Everest.”. About the research that was done, I find it hard to being incredibly positive and think that my results are “world class” or that I’m a “superstar.”. I know many other PhD students who have a great community that they work within. And, I actually think.
