Gwennap parish is a rural parish within Cornwall. It is located near the city of Truro and also the towns of Falmouth and Redruth. The parish has three main centres of population Gwennap, Crofthandy and Frogpool/Cusgarne. Gwennap parish has a small population with 1196 voters on the electoral roll living in 660 houses. With the mines now closed, the main business focus in the parish is farming, although many small businesses are based in the parish and United Downs Industrial Estate is expanding.

In 2002 Gwennap Parish Council purchased the Wheal Maid site for £1 from the previous owners Carnon Enterprises. The valley was once a tailings dam for Wheal Jane and has important 19th Century mining remains. As such the area is part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site. The Gwennap mines were remote from both the north and south coasts, and as a result incurred high charges for the transport of timber, coal and ore. John Williams of Scorrier constructed a horse-drawn tramway from his mines at Poldice through Scorrier to a newly constructed harbour on the north coast at Portreath. The Gwennap Parish Community Fete committee is putting the finishing touches to plans for the Diamond Jubilee Fete, which will be held at The Richard Jory Playing Field, Pulla Cross, on Saturday 2nd June 2012. Amongst the many attractions will be free ice creams and drinks for children, free fair ground rides, children's fancy dress competition, Lanner Silver Band, raffle and many other stalls and games.
