Gypsylion

Thursday, March 28, 2013. I recently had a revelation that nearly ever major tragedy in literature (or plays/movies) is a direct result of lack of, or mis-, information. How many times do we get the omniscient "god" view, only to have the despair of knowing that if this character had only told this other character that one crucial bit of info there could have been a happy ending? THAT, my friends, is the essence of tragedy. Moral of this story: TALK TO PEOPLE. And be honest. Monday, March 25, 2013. We st...

Gypsylion: September 2010

http://www.gypsylion.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 30, 2010. The here and now. Sometimes it's easier to be present in the moment when you're relieved from the pressure of being the one to define the moment. Examples: Some people do better in jobs where someone else defines what they're supposed to be doing rather than situations where they are responsible for the meta-awareness as well. Or in relationships, sometimes it's a good idea for the other partner to take the lead in deciding what to do or how to do it. Etc.). The here and now.

Gypsylion: Thought for the day: Balance

http://www.gypsylion.blogspot.com/2011/06/thought-for-day-balance.html

Monday, June 27, 2011. Thought for the day: Balance. Just came upon this while washing dishes (thank you to the dish-washing thought fairy). Balanced" does not always mean "equal". You could replace "always" with "have to" for a subtle variation.). I often find myself lured into believing that I need to match. Especially when combined with the awareness that I'm not the only one making choices and carrying responsibility for that balance.). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Thought for the day: Balance.

Gypsylion: June 2012

http://www.gypsylion.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 25, 2012. One of my favorite bloggers posted this today. And it's right in line with a concept that bubbled over a bit in a few areas in my life this weekend. don't you just love it when that kind of vortex happens? Gives me those lovely goosebumps of "rightness". Nervous energy [anxiety or fear] is often a signpost that what you're about to do matters. The real challenge is to learn to intuit whether the visceral response is shutting down opportunity or keeping you from physical harm.

The Herkamer Family | Our life with Rosie | Page 2

https://herkamerfamily.wordpress.com/page/2

Our life with Rosie. Don’t panic. It’s not blood. This morning, I was busy making banana bars (whole wheat banana bread in mini cupcake papers) for her to eat, so wasn’t paying a lot of attention to her. Cat in the Hat or something was on PBS Kids, so she was happy enough. Then, I realized that it was TOO quiet. Play at Kristan’s. Another Spanish play group! This time, at Kristan’s house. Rosie LOVES being outside, especially in this wonderful weather! It’s actually fall (for Texas) here! Rosie loves to ...

Our life with Rosie. Dead Trees – or why we love our neighbors. Do you see it? It’s funny what you think of in these situations. My first thought was of my curtains. We had just that morning put them up. They look great and now they were going to be smashed? And then, too, could we try to aim the tree to fall on the kitchen? I mean, if part of the house is going to be smashed, it may as well include the part that I really don’t like and want re-done anyways. So, all’s well that ends well. We ar...So, Sat...

Our life with Rosie. Super Sticky Post It Notes. So, have you tried the new Super Sticky Post It Notes? They are really great! I love them for writing directions down on and then sticking them to the dash of my car. Unlike the old ones, these stay stuck on the dash. Wonderful. After a bit of experimentation, Rosie has determined that they also stick quite well to noses. Now you know. Jessica did well I think, I know that she placed at least a couple of times in different events! Beginning of the end.

Horse Fun | The Herkamer Family

https://herkamerfamily.wordpress.com/2010/11/15/horse-fun

Our life with Rosie. Yesterday, Russ, Rosie and I went to watch Rosie’s cousin, Jessica, compete in a horse riding event. Let’s just say that I know little about horses or riding, though I have ridden a fair bit both as a kid and as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Jessica did well I think, I know that she placed at least a couple of times in different events! And, I know that this requires lots of hard work both from her and her mom. So Jess, just know, we’re proud of you! Beginning of the end. Beginning of the...

Our life with Rosie. Rosie loves to wear hats. Has for at least a year now. And, she likes to wear them out, to stores like HEB and Tractor Supply. Rosie and I were out picking up a part for Russ for one of our many project, and so went in to Tractor Supply. People were smiling at us and trying so hard not to laugh – but we were funny looking! Luckily, I had my camera with me and another customer took this picture. Notice the matching purses? And the sunglasses on upside down? I never thought that I was ...

Our life with Rosie. Beginning of the end. So, I turned 39 in October. It is the beginning of the end. The end of the 30’s! How ever did that happen? Edie met us at Russ’ grandparents house at Canyon Lake (north a bit of San Antonio) and took care of Rosie for the morning. (Talk about a great gift – time without baby! Then, Russ and I joined about 25 other Texas Master Naturalists on a 3 hour hike down the canyon formed after a huge flood in the past 10 years. It was really pretty! Nov 22, 2010. Fill in ...

January | 2010 | The Herkamer Family

https://herkamerfamily.wordpress.com/2010/01

Our life with Rosie. Clever marketing on the stores end had placed mylar helium balloons of Elmo at the end of our lane… and she loves Elmo. So, to assuage the guilt, $3 later we had a bright red Elmo face in our car. She loves balloons like this and spent the next morning chasing the cat around the house with it. As you can tell, we have a couple of other Elmo items. The stuffed version came from a yard sale for a quarter and the shirt came from Grandma Skalsky. I fear an Elmo birthday too.
