http://habibadance.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Secrets from Habiba's Diary. Dancing, performing, teaching, whirling and always learning…. Thursday, 30 May 2013. Earlier this month, I thoroughly enjoyed watching an evening of ballet performances, at Edinburgh Ballet Circle’s annual showcase, at the St Bride’s Centre, Edinburgh. It really reminded me how great it is within the Egyptian Dance or Belly Dance community, to have performing opportunities for student dancers to express themselves, whether at a local hafla, festival or community show. It ...

Zaar and Ayoub | Shelley's Bellydance Adventures
https://shelleydance.wordpress.com/2010/02/11/zaar-and-ayoub
Shelley's Bellydance Adventures. February 11, 2010 in ponderings. The Zaar ritual is a healing rite conducted (typically) by women for women in parts of East Africa and the Arabian peninsula. It tends to involve, among other things, ritual purification, music and dance. There is a mythology and history behind it that I intend to write about in another post, later. I’ve often experienced a ‘high’ after exercise, but this felt more profound than a straightforward exercise high. That’s the reason that...

SwishandHips: December 2011
http://swishandhips.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Bellydance blogging in Edinburgh, Scotland. Saturday, 31 December 2011. I'm pinching this idea from fellow Edinburgh Bellydance Blogger Habiba Dance. Can I summarise 2011 in 12 sentences, one for each month? I decided I wanted to go to Cairo this year. but as I was counting up my pennies for the flight, the uprisings began and I decided to postpone my plans. Brought my teacher and mentor Lorna Gow back to Edinburgh to teach, perform and - yay! All your Christmases be white! I danced as a Helwa Hurdie doi...

Secrets from Habiba's Diary. Dancing, performing, teaching, whirling and always learning…. Saturday, 22 February 2014. Kichree - Iraqi rice and lentils with garlic and cumin. I promised a friend I would share this recipe for kichree (كجري), a traditional Iraqi dish of rice and red lentils, with tomato, cumin and plenty of garlic. My Word Your ear.com – Habiba Danyal Barry
My Word Your ear.com. Ich spreche etwas Duetsch. September 14, 2015. Although I had to follow a very busy schedule, saw very little of my family and had to steer myself through very tight spots, I loved each and every moment of that time. I came to love the language, the people I interacted with and enjoyed everything from our feeble attempts at phrasing sentences in German to our jokes at each other’s incompetency. I learnt to laugh at myself. It was easier to laugh rather than be embarrassed about ...
