Instant PDFs via Right Click. Sat 23 August 2014. Filed under Document Workflow. Pardon the overflowing services menu. This is, for me at least, the most. Thing about using Pandoc: I can set things up in OSX and Windows such that I can just right click on a plain text, pick an item out of the context menu, and have a well-formatted, professional-looking PDF (via LaTeX) or .docx file appear beside it. No need to go to the command line! Is a PDF generated by Pandoc. Is a docx generated by Pandoc. Download ...

Fri 05 September 2014. Filed under Markdown Flavors. My thoughts on Standard Markdown/Common Markdown/Whatever John Gruber Won't Throw a Hissy Fit About If We Name It That Markdown:. For once, something about Markdown is actually high profile enough that it might not require an explanation. But, see here. For one if needed. Standard/Common/etc. is actually not all. Interesting to me personally, because I don't write in vanilla MD. But I really don't understand Gruber's reaction at all. Gruber hasn't done...

Why Markdown - Plain Text Adventure
http://plaintextadventure.com/blog/why-markdown.html
Mon 18 August 2014. Filed under Markdown 101. For decades, the dominant consumer word processing paradigm has been rich text/WYSIWYG. Think Microsoft Word and its ilk. The software shows you the text complete with all its formatting - bold and italics, lists, tables, funky colors, borders, typography, the whole deal. You can see everything, tweak everything, control every aspect of your document's appearance and its content all at the same time. It's hard to stay consistent. If you need to make any chang...

Platform choice for Plain Text Adventure. Fri 15 August 2014. Filed under Static Site Generators. It's pretty likely that I'll cycle through multiple platforms for this, as I try to pin down a Markdown-centric blogging workflow that works well for me. So far I've spent more time on this, by far, then I have actually writing anything for use here. Here's the story so far:. I initially set up Octopress using Github pages (see here. I may come back to Octopress later. (I really do like it.). So, why bother?
