Friday, June 21, 2013. Xi'an Adventures and Goodbyes. A few weeks ago, I went rafting with a few friends outside of the city. We met at a random intersection in Xi’an, where a random 面包车. Everyone else fell out of their rafts though so I guess I got a good deal, although I always think falling out is more exciting. Then we returned to Xi’an at the end of the day. The Chinese women at the table loved my friend Jess and I for our white skin (yes, actually):. The bride, groom, and my classmates. Finally at n...

Sunday, September 23, 2012. My Trip to North Korea. Ok, so I didn't actually go to North Korea, but I got pretty close! So that was awkward, hahaha. But hilarious. Sophie also got serenaded by one of the guys so that was pretty funny. Overall, very cool experience. Afterwards we went to a Japanese bar, but accidentally went to a call girl "bar" first. Awkward. The 13 Ming Dynasty Tombs. Two Saturdays ago, we took a school trip to visit the 13 Ming Dynasty Tombs. Here are some highlights from our trip:.

Thursday, April 25, 2013. Beijing, Huangshan, and Xi'an with Emily! None of the Europeans and the Chinese knew how to eat a hamburger properly and were even more baffled by the concept of rolling up a burrito. But don't worry Fulbright, I showed them how to do it! The italian failing at eating a burger. Giulia and I on the rooftop, with a view of the Xi'an city wall behind us! Emily, came to China to visit me! From there, we headed to KTV, which was epic as always. My favorite dumpling place in the world...

Tuesday, February 26, 2013. Research, Research, Research. Now that Chinese New Year celebrations are officially over, the war-zone sounding fireworks are over and everyone has returned to work. And for me that means my first week of school! That is, when I was paying attention.Have you ever tried to listen to 4 hours straight of graduate-level, extremely specialized Chinese in lecture format? Here's my school, beautiful right? So now when I say I'm doing "research", I actually know what that means! I wen...

Friday, March 15, 2013. Panels, Lectures, and 1 presidential meeting: Fulbright Taiwan Conference. It was my lucky day. And then, Robin got me into the United Lounge with her and we had a nice free lunch, and free internet! We arrived in Taipei, and took a cab together to our really nice hotel (paid for courtesy of US Taxpayers, thank you! Small food carts line the streets as people wander from one shop to the next. Afterwards, we felt a little overloaded on grease, but still loved it! He was very eloque...

Thursday, November 22, 2012. Paparazzi and Turkey (or Duck). So sorry I haven't updated in awhile. As soon as I got back from the US, classes got super hard so I've had no time to do anything! The first Sunday night I was home, my friend Thomas invited me to Spark. The coolest club in Beijing at the moment, for an Olay "Winter Sunscreen" product launch party. (One of his friends works for Olay so that was our "in"). It was pretty awesome. It also happened to be "Singles Day". 1 This week I had a great di...

Tuesday, January 22, 2013. Welcome to my new apartment! I am officially moved in, and only have a few finishing touches (wall decorations mostly) that I need to finish. So let's begin the tour! Here's the street my apartment is on. Your typical trash collector. The courtyard surrounded by my building. The signs says "Welcome Home! My door, decorated with Chinese New Year signs! This is the view when you first walk into my apartment:. Why is my closet in my living room? Most showers in China are not mount...

I haven't posted recently because I've been so busy with work, but am finally making time to write a little something! At the beginning of May, I took a weekend trip to Beijing. My first order of business with a meeting with UN Women. I met with their director last month in Beijing, and this time I got to meet with the woman that is in charge of overseeing the All China Women's Federation (ACWF). Etc A wonderfu...
