A blog of random thoughts from dead center of my garage. Sometimes the creative process requires foul language. Woodworking is 3% talent and 97% not paying attention to the internet. Friday, July 18, 2014. Foredom Inlay Router Guide Ring Base Adapter. I've been playing with wire inlay recently as there's 35 feet.

James Watriss: Installing the Emmert Pattern Maker's vise
http://jameswatriss.blogspot.com/p/installing-emmert.html
Installing the Emmert Pattern Maker's vise. Mission statement for the shop. Installing the Emmert Pattern Maker's vise. When I bought my Emmert Vise, I didn't have a clear plan for where it would be mounted. In the end, I chose to mount it to my Sjobergs bench, after resurfacing the top, and rebuilding the storage unit. The most important thing I can say at this point in the mounting procedure is NOT to drill the holes for the mounting plate. This is critical. Don't do it. There are two holes in the moun...

The Barn Woodshop: DJ Booth II.
http://thebarnwoodshop.blogspot.com/2012/05/dj-booth-ii.html
A cabinet makers Journey. Friday, 11 May 2012. I've been making progress with the Oak DJ Booth, I think I had got as far as making the former, so it was time to form the curved corners. I then made another jig for the router so the deck holes could be cut out, here you can see them cut out and edged. I have also cut some bearers in at 63mm plus the 19mm for the top, this makes 82mm, so the decks will come flush with the top. You can see the mixer pedestal below. And with both curved corners on. With that...
The Barn Woodshop: January 2011
http://thebarnwoodshop.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
A cabinet makers Journey. Monday, 31 January 2011. Oak Fire Surround III. First job this morning, was to make sure this little lot were fed and watered. With all the livestock we have, and a huge veg patch, me and all my siblings are pretty much self sufficient. It takes me about 1/2 hr in the morning, to do my share of the chores. First job in the workshop was to mark then cut the top rail. And then just free handed it through the rip saw, to within 1mm. The grain runs horizontal to the Ogee detail, so ...
The Barn Woodshop: October 2011

A cabinet makers Journey. Saturday, 29 October 2011. These two 4" lumps are English Walnut, and are destined to become two chairs when seasoned. I think some of the furniture I make from this new timber will become speculative pieces, or I have been toying with the idea of exhibiting some contemporary furniture of my own design in the future. Thanks for looking. Links to this post. Saturday, 15 October 2011. Hammer A3 41 review. Now the bad bits, this machine has been keenly priced to be in-line with its...

The Bois Shop: Don't get your drawers in a bunch

A video blog documenting the progress of the projects in my Newton, MA wood shop. You can also view my gallery at Designs en Bois. Sunday, April 21, 2013. Don't get your drawers in a bunch. I have to admit, in the last episode I think I made more mistakes in a few steps than I've ever made in a full project before. Improvising on a piece of furniture isn't always the best approach. So in this installment, I made a real effort to do whatever I could to eliminate mistakes. Sunday, April 21, 2013. Hand Tool...
