Ethics & Animals

Wednesday, December 15, 2010. Where I stand after this class. I am morally obliged to be a vegetarian because I believe that nonhumans are fully deserving of personhood status. Nonhumans satisfy the subject of a life criterion as proposed by Tom Regan, which states that those beings who are conscious of themselves (they feel, perceive, and have an interest in the state of their welfare) have inherent value and therefore must be treated with respect. Pleasure is not enough to constitute moral rightness.

Ethics & Animals: Response to Mary

http://halliesanimalethics.blogspot.com/2010/12/response-to-mary.html

Saturday, December 11, 2010. Mary talked about the movie The Island in her last blog post and then asked. Will it ever get that bad? And what way of thinking can prevent it? This leads me to wonder if we were ever be able to truly value the worth of every being, or at least human beings, equally. Do you think we could ever reach this point? Ethics & Animals: Response to Shelby

http://halliesanimalethics.blogspot.com/2010/11/response-to-shelby.html

Tuesday, November 30, 2010. Shelby wonders if we can use animals without abusing them.so do I, so here's my response. I'm now wondering how much weight we should give to an animal's preferences. Do we avoid certain practices such as using horses for carriage rides in the city because we can infer that they would rather be running in an open field somewhere or do we simply avoid practices of animal usage that clearly cause the animal unnecessary discomfort or harm? Ethics & Animals: Response to Sarah

http://halliesanimalethics.blogspot.com/2010/12/response-to-sarah.html

Wednesday, December 15, 2010. Sarah wonders if it is better for her to err on the side of caution when considering her dietary needs. My question is for those of you in the class taking baby steps: Do you think that you will ever actually be able to give up meat, to completely make that transition when you keep going back to it again and again in your baby step method? Ethics & Animals: More on the Native American Perspective.

http://halliesanimalethics.blogspot.com/2010/11/more-on-native-american-perspective.html

Monday, November 29, 2010. More on the Native American Perspective. Today in class some people talked about how the Native Americans view nature and their relationship to animals. Todd gave us a great insight on how the Native Americans hunted big game and how those animals represented the tribe as a people symbolically. While it was great to hear this information, I don't feel that a full representation was given. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). December 12 - December 19 (2). The purpose of this blo...

A Little about Me. Tuesday, November 8, 2016. I just really felt like I needed to share this with ya'll. As you all know, it's election day. I am young, and pretty uneducated in the sense of politics, and really, I don't have much to say. Only this,. Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.". So happy Election Day! And God bless America! Saturday, October 1, 2016. From Prison to Peace. I have had a wonderful, crazy summer!
