Day 8 – Mile 43.2 – Low Gap Shelter | Hanging On The Trail

https://hangingonthetrail.wordpress.com/2014/03/16/day-8-mile-43-2-low-gap-shelter

Hanging On The Trail. Planning and completing a 2014 Appalachian Trail thru-hike. Day 8 – Mile 43.2 – Low Gap Shelter. Today was horribly windy and cold. I anticipated rain, snow, and cold weather but wind is something I had not given much thought. Randy has a bad knee so he will try and make it to the town of Haiwassee and get a brace. I plan to get an early start tomorrow. My alarm is set for 6:20am. It should be the coldest night yet though, so who knows when I’ll want to get out of bed. You are comme...

December | 2013 | Hanging On The Trail

https://hangingonthetrail.wordpress.com/2013/12

Hanging On The Trail. Planning and completing a 2014 Appalachian Trail thru-hike. Monthly Archives: December 2013. Testing the new Underquilt. I am sick right now so my backpacking trip is delayed but I went over to my local park to test out my new Underquilt. It is exactly what I wanted, my only concern is how bulky it is in my pack. It takes up about a third of the pack volume. My top quilt is only rated at 30 degrees so I am hoping this Underquilt will make up the difference. I have a lot of posts abo...

Day 33 – Mile 144 – Sassafras Gap Shelter | Hanging On The Trail

https://hangingonthetrail.wordpress.com/2014/04/09/day-33-mile-144-sassafras-gap-shelter

Hanging On The Trail. Planning and completing a 2014 Appalachian Trail thru-hike. Day 33 – Mile 144 – Sassafras Gap Shelter. I have been hiking with Toad and GNP since I left Franklin last Thursday. My trail name is Townie since I spend more days in town then on trail. I caught up with them the last half mile before this shelter. They continued on but I stayed here since it was not windy and there was a great place to hang my hammock. I should be in the smokies in 3 days. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Day 9 – Mile 58.6 – Tray Mountain Shelter | Hanging On The Trail

https://hangingonthetrail.wordpress.com/2014/03/22/day-9-mile-58-6-tray-mountain-shelter

Hanging On The Trail. Planning and completing a 2014 Appalachian Trail thru-hike. Day 9 – Mile 58.6 – Tray Mountain Shelter. Hiked 15.4 miles. I got to Tray Gap and there were two guys with a barbecue. They gave me an ice cold Mt Dew and a cheeseburger. I had another burger, thanked them, and continued on up Tray Mountain. Colin showed up and we have plans for Helen, GA – it will be a tough day of hiking tomorrow to reach Dicks Creek. We plan on setting off at 8:30. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Big Tree | Mike likes to hike

https://mmaki1014.wordpress.com/2014/02/24/big-tree

Mike likes to hike. You're off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So… get on your way! February 24, 2014. This is from a day hike I did in the beginning of February. I decided to hike out to see Big Tree in the Sipsey Wilderness. Big Tree is located in East Bee Canyon. It’s a nice little 8 mile day hike that is pretty easy terrain. View of Big Tree from the top of the canyon. There’s also 2 waterfalls in the canyon. Some people come by horse. The way out is an old access road.

Moments in Time | The Scoutmaster Minute

https://thescoutmasterminute.net/2015/08/12/moments-in-time

August 12, 2015. There are moments in your life where vision is realized, made clear, and action set in motion. We have lived moments that have greater meaning, cause us to be moved, and in the words that resonate through out the Order of the Arrow, we “Seek a Higher Vision”. Those moments in time are so precious. The theme of the NOAC was “It starts with us”. I did not know where they were going with that upon arrival at MSU. But it did not take long to see that there was something s...Listen to our you...

New Pack- Quick Look. April 12, 2015. Hey gang. Been awhile. certainly got away from my blogging goals over the last couple weeks. No real excuse other than to say other things have taken priority. In the mean time I got some new gear and I am super excited about my new Backpack. I ordered it direct from Osprey back in January, but due to the striking long shore men the pack just got here yesterday. Ah well. it is what it is. I have tried to go smaller, but find that I struggle with loading the pack and ...

Patch Trading | The Scoutmaster Minute

https://thescoutmasterminute.net/2015/05/20/patch-trading

May 20, 2015. Then in 2010, I went to the National Jamboree. Before we left a good friend of mine, also a Scoutmaster, suggested that I get extra patches for trading. I was reluctant as I was not a patch collector or trader for that matter. Yeah, I liked to get patches and liked to go to the trade-o-ree at Conclave but a collector or trader I was not. So, I bought extra patch sets and the night before we left for Jambo I threw in a handful of patches that I had from the box into my duffel bag. Patch trad...

How Healthy is your Troop? | The Scoutmaster Minute

https://thescoutmasterminute.net/2015/05/13/how-healthy-is-your-troop

How Healthy is your Troop? May 13, 2015. In other words, we have systems in place to measure the Health of our units. We can look to those systems to analyze numerically how we are doing, but does it tell you the story of the health of our units? This has played out over and over again, and listening to Matt, I could see that it would play out again with him. The real measure of the health of your unit is in your Scouts. Are they staying? Are they attending activities? As I sit and listen I can’t h...

April 18, 2015. Its never late to learn, you are never to old to figure things out… you don’t know it all. You know what famous person this quote is from? Yeahme neither. I just wrote it, but I am sure that there are lots of great leaders out there that share my sentiment when I say there are times when you have to remember to practice what you preach. I tell our Scouts that to be an effective leader you must first learn and develop the ability to be a good follower. Have a Great Scouting Day! Mission: T...

Posts Tagged With: Adventure. November 22, 2015. If you play a game that has a desired outcome or purpose it is important that you first know what that purpose is and then have some way of knowing if you achieved the results you were looking for. Reflection is an important part of every thing that we do in Scouting. It allows us to take a look back and see if we achieved the outcomes we want in playing our game. These young men learned and practiced great leadership. I was pleased to watch as members...
