How do I get them to listen? The first 6 weeks of guided reading are the most crucial for setting up consistency and routine. This is when you are teaching them HOW to be in centers. You are NOT pulling any groups at this point. This 30 minutes a day will set you up for real uninterrupted learning for the rest of the year.
