Restoring Horse Drawn Carriages: Sand and Paint Everything
http://vintagerestorations.blogspot.com/2006/05/sand-and-paint-everything.html
Restoring Horse Drawn Carriages. Sunday, May 07, 2006. Sand and Paint Everything. Recently someone asked me what to do about a buggy on which the wood was very dry. And here is my reply:. It needs to be sanded and painted and then a sealer put over the paint. We use automotive paint-it is more expensive but lasts longer. The metal has to be sanded and primered and painted just like when you paint a car. Metal must be primered right after you sand it or else the rust will come back. Doctors buggy for sale.

As part of their commitment to fully engaging the early horse-drawn vehicle industry, the Hansens participate in a number of trail drives and reenactment events. Photo courtesy Doug Hansen. After generations of horseflesh ruling the road, the entire industry suddenly found itself scrambling to understand the changing business climate...

Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Ice Wagons and the Knickerbocker Ice Company. Having true ‘ice boxes’ in a home seems to have become relatively commonplace in America by 1900, with associated ice providers making regular deliveries to homes and businesses. One of the industry legends, the Knickerbocker Ice Company of Philadelphia, harvested, stored, and delivered ice during the 19th. This historic cut shows a portion of the Philadelphia workshops. Of the Knickerbocker Ice Company. 8221; If I’ve done ...

Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Wagons and the Way They Were Built. I’ve shared a number of times that every part of a period vehicle can hold clues related to its provenance. From age and use histories to maker labels and design standards, paying attention to construction details can make all the difference in what we know to be fact versus mere beliefs or speculation. This image shows a wagon with the more commonly seen tongue and groove floor. As can be seen in this image, laying boards side by side invari...

Tuesday, June 4, 2013. Hans and Spätzle - The Shoe Spoon Novel. This particular blog post was something that started around five or six years ago. Back then, it was actually an email chain going back and forth between me and Julian Potter due to how funny we thought the image was that Wade Griffith, a photographer, had discovered. What started out as a few emails began to grow into a full length story written by me, Julian, David Brashier and David Allen, one of Dallas' finest creative directors. His pet...

Tuesday, September 24, 2013. May I Have a Pecan Log Please? Each summer, we travel to Georgia to the beach with family. Enjoying a tradition from my wife's side of the family, we are all able to leave the real world behind and take in the sun and sand. This year and in keeping with our tradition of walking each morning, something my wife and I try to do as it provides a small break from the kids, we headed out and up the street towards the beach. I was in the construction business. I built Stuckey's ...
