GRACILLARIIDAE: 282 - 305. Feeding signs on alder, Milner Royd drain, Sept.16th 09. First the larva creates an upperside, elongated, silvery blotch, then it leaves the mine and rolls the leaf edge downwards to feed in. This is my only record. A rolled leaf tip and two blotch mines on Sycamore, Bankhouse wood, June 19th 2014. A 6mm long blotch mine on Sycamore, Bankhouse wood, June 12th 2014. July 7th 2014. Reared from the larva in the rolled leaf edge pictured above. Apr30th 2013. Freshly emerged fro...

Tag Loop, July 17th 06. Nectaring on knapweed, a field observation. My only other record away from this site is of one at Copley meadow on July 30th 2012. 171 Narrow-bordered Five-spot Burnet. Larvae and cocoon, Tag Loop, May 17th 2011. Vast armies of burnet moth larvae ascend any available vegetation at this time of year to spin their papery cocoons. 171 Narrow-bordered Five-spot Burnet. Larva, Tag Loop, May 17th 2011. This one's in the process of spinning up prior to pupation. Feeding case, empty pupal...

Charlie's moths of Calderdale.: NEPTICULIDAE: 20 - 50.
http://charlielepidopteraofcalderdale.blogspot.com/2011/11/neps-1.html
NEPTICULIDAE: 20 - 50. Bedroom window, June 7th 2011. Captured by day and a much sought after species. As the larvae mine the seeds of Sycamore I didn't hold out much hope of finding any of the mines so to find this adult with the minimum of effort was most unexpected. This is the only record. Larva and mine in Hawthorn, the towpath at Copley, Oct.1st 09. A classic. This is the only record. Mine and larva in oak, a Norland bridle path, Oct.10th 09. Another classic. Mine in oak, Bankhouse wood, Nov.26...

Charlie's moths of Calderdale.: NEPTICULIDAE: 51 - 84.
http://charlielepidopteraofcalderdale.blogspot.com/2011/11/neps-2.html
NEPTICULIDAE: 51 - 84. Mine in Elm, Birdcage Lane, Oct.28th 2010. Apr16th 2011. Reared from mines on Elm found at Bankhouse wood the previous October. Frustratingly this one wouldn't stay still long enough for a decent shot and when they take flight they can easily disappear in to the tiniest of nooks and crannies. It's always a worry that you can easily lose one that you've just spent 6 months rearing. Mine and larva in Sallow, Tag Loop, Oct.16th 09. Vacated mine in Hawthorn, New Lane, Sept.23rd 09&...

This is a Flickr badge showing items in a set called Moths. Moth year list 2012.

Mine and larval chamber on oak, Norland village, Feb.2nd 2012. The larval chamber is visible as the circular, brown blotch within the mine. It will pupate in this in spring. Larva and opened chamber, details as above. Carefully peeling back the chamber wall reveals an overwintering larva. Apr3rd 2010. Reared from the mines pictured top. Male), Norland bilberry slopes...

Charlie's moths of Calderdale.: GRACILLARIIDAE: 336 - 343

GRACILLARIIDAE: 336 - 343. Pupa found on oak at Norland village on Feb.2nd 2012. As the moth forms inside the pupa the eyes begin to darken and the wing pattern slowly develops. Moments before emerging the exarate nature of the pupa becomes apparent. This is where the appendages are free from the main body of the pupa. New Lane, May 3rd 2010. One of two flying in the early morning sun - captured by hand! A mating pair on oak, North Dean wood, June 1st 2010. Captured by day. On oak, Long wood, Apr.26t...
