The adventures of living in Cambodia, mostly written at 4 a.m. February 23, 2014. I’m currently sitting in the Hall of Great Women that is the top floor of the three story dorm I live in. There’s a security guard outside our dorm 24/7 and mango trees. The girls here eat the mangos when they’re green and dip them in a salty red pepper combo as a snack. Mango and sticky rice made for me by my lovely roommate. Funerals for the rich. One of the girls in the dorm wants to play guitar like Taylor Swift. There ...

The adventures of living in Cambodia, mostly written at 4 a.m. April 1, 2014. From sobering classes to celebratory dances. Which is really not comforting. No smooth transition here because I’m not a paid writer anymore and can do whatever I want. So, on a completely unrelated note:. So good to get away from the dorm and be refreshed! Thanks to my swimming instructor friend from home Erin Duncan who gave me tips to teach them! My bedroom was the staging area. Ready for her performance in the play, dressed...

April 2014 – Jetlag Talks
https://jetlagtalks.wordpress.com/2014/04
The adventures of living in Cambodia, mostly written at 4 a.m. April 25, 2014. One of my first days back in Cambodia after Thailand, I woke up to see the sunrise at Angkor Wat, arguably the world’s largest religious monument, and, understandably, a huge source of pride for Cambodians. Angkor Wat was a whole “city” of temples, built around 1100 A.D. A story from Harpswell. Kimlai singing at Harpswell’s celebration of International Women’s Day. She’s got a great voice! I fit right in, don’t I? Cambodia is ...

The adventures of living in Cambodia, mostly written at 4 a.m. March 12, 2014. Sister, Crazy Aunt, Proud Mom. What’s that movie with Whoopi Goldberg? New places, new brain spaces. Being in this environment, it feels like there is more room in my brain to think of so many ideas and things that there has not been space for in a while. Has that happened to you? Who knows what valuable thoughts are tucked away that you have to be willing to be alone with for a while for them to come to the surface? Each of t...

The adventures of living in Cambodia, mostly written at 4 a.m. April 24, 2014. A first love that never fades, Thailand stayed true. The colors in Chiang Mai, our first stop. 8221; And I told them I’d been to Thailand before and grew a heart for that part of the world. But proximity does not mean similarity I have realized. Kat and I visited the Elephant Nature Park, 45 mins. north of Pai where they rescue endangered elephants. Requisite handstand, obviously. Here we are in Pai, a hippie mountain town.

The adventures of living in Cambodia, mostly written at 4 a.m. March 26, 2014. Adjusting to life in Phnom Penh is not that difficult in terms of missing America. Amazing hotels here about about $50/night. Favorite restaurant in the world as of 2 weeks ago. Way to be fierce, girls! Harpswell ladies post-birthday party shenanigans. Would I recommend visiting Phnom Penh? Worth traveling across the world to meet the people. Thida is so sweet. She treats me like family! Things you see sometimes. You are comme...

The adventures of living in Cambodia, mostly written at 4 a.m. March 23, 2014. Things you see sometimes. I know of all the things to think about that could make me feel more positive or optimistic, but there’s a time and place for that, and there’s a time to pause before jumping to that. What am I doing? – Jetlag Talks
https://jetlagtalks.wordpress.com/2014/03/04/what-am-i-doing
The adventures of living in Cambodia, mostly written at 4 a.m. March 4, 2014. What am I doing? So you don’t think I just ride on motos all the time (which I do a lot of though since it’s the way to get around), here’s an idea of what my job is all about:. Though my job technically starts at 3 pm, anytime I’m in the dorm I’m sort of on, I’ve realized. Last week, while washing my dishes after breakfast, one of the girls came up to me and asked, Amanda, what is the benefit of media in a democratic society?
