These are just a few of my favorite pictures. I think this one is pretty cool because it is the only image I've ever seen that shows the inside of the Moorlyn when it was Moore's Bowling Casino before 1922. The boardwalk, while not the first one built, was still a pretty new thing and I'm sure this was a favorite place for those early boardwalk visitors. In this picture. I like this one because it shows the Village Theatre when is was still Doughty's Pier. Notice that the ocean washes up underneath.
New Strand

Following the 1937 fire that destroyed the original Strand Theatre, William Shriver decided he would rebuild his theatre as the finest boardwalk theatre on the boardwalk. Using the architect Armand Carroll of Philadelphia, he designed a new theatre for the premium location at 9th and Boardwalk. The corner had previously been home to a carousel. Burned down in the fall of 1937. The new theatre opened for business on a hot, sunny August 11, 1938. Portraits of Hollywood stars were set into the southern wall.
Doughty's Pier

Has probably the most interesting history. It was built as a pier near 8th Street sometime after 1910. Standing high up on pilings, above the water's edge, the theatre presented plays, vaudeville acts and silent movies. Doughty's Pier. As it was known, had rows of windows on each side to let the ocean breeze through. Benches offered simple seating for the crowds. Along with a pavilion. And a walkway to the water's edge. The Doughty Building. Of the building, overlooking the Atlantic, each night and talk.

Opened as a boardwalk bowling alley between 8th and 9th streets called Moore's Bowling Casino. Owned by Ocean City Casino Co. As best as I can tell, it was built no later than 1905 when the new boardwalk was completed. The second floor included a large dance hall, with a stage for the band.
