Last weekend we took advantage of our new proximity to the fine state of Virginia and took an anniversary trip to Washington DC. I hope we get to explore Virginia a good deal during our time here; it was the state that always seemed so close and yet so far away from Kentucky. Mission: To visit as many museums and sample as many of the best cheap eats possible in two days…. We strolled the mall and checked in on the White House.

Monday, February 24, 2014. I'm a little late on the posting, but Ava's first Christmas was wonderful! Warning: picture overload. We got to have a little Christmas at home. Then, we traveled to Texas and visited with both of our families. The week before Christmas, we had a little Christmas morning celebration at our house with presents, cinnamon rolls, and breakfast casserole, and it was a great morning! Monday, February 24, 2014. Ava would like to tell you about her trip to Dallas to visit Winnie and Papa C last week. Thursday, December 5, 2013. One thing Iowa has that Texas does not: BASEMENTS. A basement is a beautiful thing, y'all! When we walked into our basement, we were amazed. So much space we've never had before! What would we do. The playroom is tucked back in this great little alcove of the basement, and it opens up into a wider space for her to run around. One of Ava's favorite parts of the playroom are these amazing play tunnels from IKEA. She crawls through there at least 10 times a day, and it is so cute!

Because of that, this first spring here is feeling particularly magical. First Easter hosted at our home with Mom and Dad. Spring is such a sign of hope, a reminder that life comes from death, what's old can be new again, and that for everything there is a season. Ok, I think I covered every cliche there, right? Hmm, leaves and no flowers?
