FILLING THE EMPTY SPACES WITH AN ECHOING CROAK: February 2014
http://echoingcroak.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
A notebook of life in the Highlands, drawing painting printing gardening cooking and cleaning and if there is time, going for a walk. Sunday, 9 February 2014. A large stricking piece comprised three moving lines projected onto a wall showing a changing configuration of the human head. Despite the wet we had two great days of culture, it felt like drinking a great bottle of wine, and despite returning with soaking shoes, socks and feet, we both. The author and partner at the market!

Another day in …. Nicola Brown Fine Art Textiles. I finally gave myself a day away from decorating and had a great time. I’ve discovered natural dyeing! About a year ago I treated myself to a kit and this week decided it was about time to try it out. I ended up being engrossed for the best part of a day. Next I’m going to try woad but first need to stock up on more yarn. Oh, and think about what to use the results for as usual! May 30, 2015. May 30, 2015. Leave a comment on Indigo alchemy. Suddenly, I’ve...

Looking from the Shore. March 20, 2015. Partial Eclipse, Stoth, Ness. The day dawned bright; blue skies and sunshine – again! Drove up to Stoth, a small cove near the Butt of Lewis, but even as I was leaving I could see dank, low, grey clouds of drizzle rolling in off the Atlantic. Partial eclipse at the start. Treshnish Farm: A day to remember
http://haunnblackhouse.blogspot.com/2015/07/a-day-to-remember.html
Treshnish: all part of the story. Friday, 17 July 2015. A day to remember. I managed to fit in 4 wild flower wanders in one day, and each one was magical in a different way. Walk number one was arranged by the Ranger Service. With Rachel their seasonal ranger taking the lead. She brought books and ID charts, she talked about the Big Butterfly Count which Butterfly Conservation organise and which starts any day now, it only takes 15 minutes - why not have a go? The Slender St John's wort is flowering.

Treshnish: all part of the story. Tuesday, 21 July 2015. Walking through the field the cows were in about 2 weeks ago. This lush ring of flora hides a cow pat. Talk about natural fertiliser! A pale lilac Self heal. A delight to see a Six spot burnet moth on a Fragrant orchid. Looking back to the boathouse. Everywhere we looked there were orchids. I think these are Common spotted. Whatever they are, they are common here. It is bliss being out there at sunset. Eyebright picking up the light. It is hard wor...

Treshnish: all part of the story. Sunday, 31 August 2014. Away with the Birds. Here we are, Away with the Birds. On the Canna ferry from Mallaig. A Bonxie (great Skua) circling overhead. Coming to the pier. The atmosphere on the ferry is wonderful. Everyone seems to be excited. We are welcomed by Stewards who are helpful and warmly instructive. We have from 10am until about 4pm to explore before we gather in the marquee next to Canna House, for tea, drams and cakes. We head off to explore. We look back a...
