Supporting people with acquired brain injury and their families. About acquired brain injury. In Victoria each year, approximately 2,000 people receive an injury to their brain or acquired brain injury (ABI). For many, an ABI carries lifelong effects. Most of the people who receive an injury to the brain are males aged 18 to 30 years. Headway supports people with ABI aged between 18 and 64. Read more about the causes. ABI can affect a person's cognitive, behavioural, physical and sensory abilities.
