Mars Probe: New Year's Resolutions
http://marsprobe.blogspot.com/2011/01/new-years-resolutions.html
Sunday, 2 January 2011. I haven't blogged since I became a grandfather. What a fantastic thing that is - I'm still not accustomed to it. Children and grandchildren, especially one's own, are just an inexhaustible marvel. My New Year's resolutions are:. Do up house and sell it. Take saxophone diploma (and practise a lot on the way). Walk a lot (esp in Lakes) - so far 2/2 days! Visit National Trust places. Always be reading a book. Invite more people round to dinner. Clarify my theology a bit more.

Mars Probe: August 2010
http://marsprobe.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, 21 August 2010. Listening to The Golden Age by Kenneth Grahame (Wind In The Willows) about life in the idyllic English countryside. When was your golden age? I think the golden age in England was probably in the 50s after the war and before social decay. My wife's golden age was her childhood and time at university; my golden age is probably now. When I lived abroad, walking in the English countryside was one of the things I missed the most (as well as the English pub and the English quiet).

Mars Probe: Glass Two-Thirds Full?
http://marsprobe.blogspot.com/2010/08/glass-two-thirds-full.html
Friday, 6 August 2010. Statistically I've lived 2/3 of my life. Or there is 1/3 left. Either way it sounds like a glass half-empty. Though in fact my life is 2/3 full. Actually the 1/3 left is my children's whole life which is a long time - their childhood seems several lifetimes ago. I've just listened to. Radio I am listening to on iPlayer. Mars Probe: Stairway to Heaven
http://marsprobe.blogspot.com/2010/08/stairway-to-heaven.html
Thursday, 5 August 2010. How good would church music be if it was like more like "Stairway to Heaven"? Apart from the obscure lyrics of course). How many people have climbed some of the stairway by music of whatever kind eg Lark Ascending? How can church music be acceptable to people when they would never listen to it at home? Radio I am listening to on iPlayer. Old Peter's Russian Tales. Books I am reading. Works of Rudyard Kipling. The Man In The High Castle (Philip K Dick). Speaking from the heart.

Mars Probe: "Our perspectives are entirely different"
http://marsprobe.blogspot.com/2010/08/our-perspectives-are-entirely-different.html
Saturday, 21 August 2010. Our perspectives are entirely different". In last couple of weeks I've heard of son's friend's dad who died suddenly in late 50s (just like my dad); refugees who have lost their whole family (never mind all their stuff); kids' teacher's son-in-law who got shot in Afghanistan leaving a wife and 10-month baby. Such things put everything into perspective - everything else becomes trivial and unimportant and somewhat dreamlike. Sic transit gloria mundi. Old Peter's Russian Tales.
