Arlo was given this little green, fairly tasteless fruit, the name of which eludes us. Does anyone know what it would be? Another outing close to home was the park just across the canal. A Walk in the Old Town. I don't think this van or bike will be going anywhere in a hurry. The trees had all been heavily pruned but I think this would be a lovely shady street in the summer. Many historic bridges cross the canal. Boatmen collecting rubbish with nets. Water taxies on the canal. Waiting for a fare. on land.

Little seems to have changed in creating today's pottery figures. Sophia and Mr Joe drove us into rural China to visit farming in rice paddies. As our visit happened in early spring we were fortunate to witness farmers preparing soil or planting rice for the coming growing period. Rice is grown here mainly in the river valleys but we also witnessed terraced farming. A farmer using water buffalo to plough the field.

Friday, 20 July 2012. Our afternoon stroll found us entering Xiyang Shi Street. We discover this is the Muslim Quarter of the city. The Chinese Muslims belong to the Hui community with the men wearing white skullcaps and the women generally wearing scarves. Colour abounds. Crowds jam the mall walks.
