Here is a little about the development of the tramway. The Tramway has a gauge of 20" and there are two tracks with a tramcar on each line. The maximum gradient is 1 in 7. Opened to the public on May 18th 1895, the Tramway was powered by a Suction Gas Engine, then Town Gas and then Oil (1915) before being converted to electric in 1928. Please can you help us? We have recently had a spate of vandalism and theft at the tramway. The trams have had lights stolen, wiring vandalised and seats set fire too. Our gaslight at the top station has been stolen as well as a fire set alongside the museum. The police are aware of these incidents and we ask your help in trying to report thes incidents.
