Helen and Ed Cycle East. Thursday, 16 September 2010. Immediately after our departure from Hongyuan the floods that caused such chaos in China and Pakistan cut the road between us and our bikes. We were stuck in Chengdu, not knowing when our bikes would arrive and worrying about what would happen to Nico and Sarah. This waiting gave Ed a chance to recover and we made the most of our time with a bit of sightseeing. Chengdu has plenty of monasteries:. It is also home to the famous panda research centre:.

Far from being the end of our trip, this part of China turned out to be one of the most interesting places. Beautiful scenery and fascinating culture. On our route there were only a few small towns separated by long stretches of quiet roads crossing beautiful grasslands dotted with nomad tents and heards of yak. Of course we would never really have given up our trusty steeds, would we?
