Neil Shaw

A blog from The Herald and www.thisisplymouth.co.uk. Monday, 15 September 2008. This competition just gets tougher! I've created a monster. To be more accurate daytime-cookery-competition-TV has created a monster. Not a mealtime goes by in the Shaw household now without my four-year old daughter proclaiming "the carrots are delicious, and the taste comes through from the pine nuts. But the tomatoes are yuck.". I'm presuming she uses my first name to avoid any accusation of the judge favouring Daddy.

Neil Shaw: March 2008

http://heraldneilshaw.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

A blog from The Herald and www.thisisplymouth.co.uk. Sunday, 16 March 2008. Victory and the price of freedom. No-one was more surprise than me when the camera swung round to table one in the conference room at the Holiday Inn as it was announced that thisisplymouth and The Herald had won a Media Innovation Award. One year, well 15 months, messing around with this multimedia stuff and this was our second awards ceremony. How far do we allow freedom of speech to intrude on the feelings of others? Subscribe...

Neil Shaw: March 2007

http://heraldneilshaw.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html

A blog from The Herald and www.thisisplymouth.co.uk. Friday, 23 March 2007. As a nation, in fact across Western Culture, we have come to expect more and more for less and less. The thought struck me twice yesterday, the second time was on arriving home to find all the neighbours in the street and up in arms as the house across the road had been burgled in broad daylight. The reason for this thought? Newspapers in various places have tried to run subscription services, and have found just handfuls of peop...

Neil Shaw: October 2006

http://heraldneilshaw.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html

A blog from The Herald and www.thisisplymouth.co.uk. Wednesday, 25 October 2006. I blog from the shadow of the towers of St Mark's Basilica, as they fall across the Venetian lagoon and lay on the upper deck of my boat, moored in the quiet little marina island of Certosa. We arrived in Certosa yesterday evrning after chasing glorious sunshine down the idyllic River Sile to the lock at Portigrandi, then out into the lagoon. When the morning mist lifted from the willow trees dangling their branches in the w...

A blog from The Herald and www.thisisplymouth.co.uk. Wednesday, 27 February 2008. Well I survived my first major earthquake. I say major, one person injured, a few bricks slightly out of place - but apparently it's the biggest we've had in the country for 25 years. 5.2 on the Richter Scale so I'm told. I wasn't that far from the epicentre in Market Rasen, I was staying overnight in Leicester while taking part in a two day conference in Nottingham. Personally I think this new management system is much mor...

Neil Shaw: August 2007

http://heraldneilshaw.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html

A blog from The Herald and www.thisisplymouth.co.uk. Saturday, 18 August 2007. Two things I hate about Flavour Fest. There are two things I hate about Flavour Fest. One is that I've just come away from it with my wallet £75 lighter. The other is that it isn't held every month. As a Plymouth exile (I live in the wild yonders of Torbay) I braved the rains, the 45 minute trek along the A38 and the stench of the Theatre Royal carpark to make my way to Plymouth's fourth annual festival of local produce.
