Herdin' the Stacks. Observations about being a librarian in the midst of a revolution. Archive for February, 2011. February 20, 2011. This is a lovely cerquita. In Durfort. It is a short walk from Gwen’s studio and home, La Cascade. What is chilling is this: although I have always believed libraries embody continuity, we are entering troubled times. The C ity of Camarillo. Has given the running of the public library to a private company. And so has the city of Santa Clarita. February 15, 2011. Zack has e...

A day in the life . . . well actually, an excellent day in the life. February 8, 2011. Farmer's market, Lautrec, Plum Cafe. Today was a magical day. Almost as good as the farmer’s market in Revel, finding ourselves in medieval Lautrec or dining al fresco at Le Cafe Plum. The Creative Kat: Autumn's change
http://thecreativekat.blogspot.com/2013/11/autumns-change.html
The musing of a designer • adventurer • traveler • bon vivant. Tuesday, November 5, 2013. This past weekend we went back to standard time. We simply flipped the clock back one full hour, and I feel I'm still recovering from the time change. Yes, it's a bit brighter when I wake up, but it's dark, when I drive home from work. Oh how I yearn for the glory of my friend Mr. Sunshine, and the seemingly endlessly long days of summer. Sigh. Note: Only a member of this blog may post a comment. Sometimes I get sad...
The Creative Kat: Empowerment

The musing of a designer • adventurer • traveler • bon vivant. Sunday, October 27, 2013. Ten years ago this weekend, I completed something I never thought I would do: I had no real intention of doing, but am so glad I did. I ran the Washington D.C. Marine Corps Marathon: 42.2 km or 26.1 miles. In January of 2003, I joined a running group called Jeansmarines. Their purpose was to train a group of people to run and complete the Marine Corps marathon. Heck, what did I know about running a marathon? I swear ...

The musing of a designer • adventurer • traveler • bon vivant. Monday, May 13, 2013. Documentaries are to Canada. What Jazz is to America. At least that's what a slide flashed us before each documentary I recently saw at Toronto's Hot Docs (that's hot documentaries) film festival. Expedition to the End of the World. At TIFF's Lightbox was our first film, with a Q and A by the director and producer post show. What a beautifully shot documentary, with a quirky cadre of stars set on top of a gorgeous so...
The Creative Kat: Memories made
http://thecreativekat.blogspot.com/2013/06/memories-made.html
The musing of a designer • adventurer • traveler • bon vivant. Monday, June 17, 2013. I've just returned from four days in New York City. Four days in New York is like eight days any where else. Each day was high energy and action packed, filled with great memories and a longing to return. We ended the trip on a high, which as my friend Kitti always said after we had a successful day of teaching in Kathmandu, is always a good thing. Great memories are made from all of those things. Crashing back to Earth.

The musing of a designer • adventurer • traveler • bon vivant. Sunday, April 26, 2015. Kitti and I in Patan Durbar Square. One minute all is well, and the next, buildings are no more. Dust and debris and shattered lives are the aftermath of the earthquake which happened in Nepal yesterday. I was heartbroken to hear the news. Standing on the upper deck of our hostel, I thought, "how would these buildings survive, if a earthquake hit? View from our rooftop hostel by Kalinki Temple. Links to this post.

The musing of a designer • adventurer • traveler • bon vivant. Thursday, January 24, 2013. I saw a neighbor having a cigarette on his porch as I walked by and he just laughed when I said I was warm, but really I was. Even my phone was warm when I tried to take a picture of the moon, the steam kept rolling off of it and getting in the photo. Steam coming off my camera. As I tried to capture the moon. Herd Instincts
Monday, March 19, 2012. How are you feeling today? Today I am feeling energized because last week I had the opportunity to participate in McKinsey and Company's West Coast Women's Leadership Summit here in San Francisco. The catalyst for this event is a five-year study of leadership conducted by Joanna Barsh and Susie Cranston who are passionate about discovering insights on how successful women lead. Together they have developed a model for what they call Centered Leadership. How are you feeling today?

Herd in the 'hood: my own version of a modern family
Herd in the 'hood: my own version of a modern family. What started out as a blog about my slightly neurotic Australian shepherd-border collie mix has evolved into one about my own version of a modern family: me, hubby, no kids, and, of course, our crazy dog. We laugh a lot as we go through life together. I hope you will too as you read about our adventures, sometimes with and sometimes without barking! Saturday, June 27, 2015. I loved you when you yelled at me for cutting off my hair. I loved you when, b...
