Suzi Nolt-John Pottery: July 2009
http://nolt-john-pottery.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 30, 2009. Doodles come to life . IT'S ALIVE! Tuesday, June 23, 2009 I posted the story of my sculpture and how I was challenged to take a doodle I created and turn it into a 3-d sculpture. It's done! It took 3-1/2 hours to glaze this piece. So with the throwing, coil building, carving and glazing there are nearly 10 hours invested in this before the raku firing. Monday, July 13, 2009. Suzi Nolt-John Pottery: Artists' Garage Sale
http://nolt-john-pottery.blogspot.com/2009/06/artists-garage-sale.html
Monday, June 29, 2009. So far we have potters, painters, wood carvers, jewelry-makers interested. I would love to see about 10 tents set up. We will see. You know how things go. For all our good intentions, often something interferes, like weather, family stuff. My fingers are crossed for perfectly beautiful weather (like today) and a huge turn-out! If this works we may make this an annual event. We are donating a portion of the proceeds to helping supply a hospital in Zimbabwe with much-needed medicine.

Tuesday, June 23, 2009. Doodles come to life. I was told that if I could duplicate that drawing in clay I would be considered a true artist. Not one to shy away from a challenge and wanting to prove that I am an artist, I hit the potter's wheel. I first threw a bowl about 9" in diameter and about 4" tall. Then I began coil building on the base. As it grew I had to determine where to put the spouts that appeared on the piece, and how I would actually add them. I covered the piece and went to bed.

Wednesday, June 24, 2009. Raku Firing produces incredible results. I have been working with raku firing for years, off and on. Most recently I have been teaming with Jack Valentine of Valentine Studios ( www.Valentine-Studios.com. To expand my knowledge and skills in both throwing and hand-building, but also to raku fire my pieces. Jack built not only his kiln, but the shed that houses it and the electric pulley system that helps him lift the kiln from the pots. I also use negative space. I rarely co...
