The A'LEE family of Polperro. The A'Lee family of Polperro originated in Lanreath in Cornwall. John Allee married Rachell Jagoe at Talland Church on 26 July 1742, but his family had farmed and lived around Lanreath since before 1560. The other A'Lee brothers fell on hard times too, having become fishermen and mariners in Polperro or migrated further afield. The eldest of Nicholas' nephews, called John (what else) went to Liverpool, marrying a Polperro girl Elizabeth Curtis there. Top of this page.

Zephaniah Job's arrival in Polperro in the early 1770s had a profound effect on the life of the small community during the 18th and 19th centuries for he became the greatest single benefactor in its history. The FORWARD family of Polperro. The Forward family in Polperro can be traced back to an entry in the Talland baptism register for Jonathan Forehead, son of Thomas and Fridayswed Forehead, on 15th March 1747. By the time of Jonathan's marriage to Elizabeth Batten in 1775, the surname had changed to Forward. Samuel's elder brothers, John and Richard, both served aboard the Revenue cruiser Harpy. The BUNT family of Polperro. The Bunt family in Polperro originated with the arrival of William Bunt (1739-1804) of Warleggon in Cornwall who married Christian Taparel at Talland on New Year's Day, 1769. Of their four children, William (1771-1846) married Jane Mitchell in 1804 and the couple had nine children of their own and over 30 grandchildren, among them two named William who both became shoemakers in Polperro. The COUCH family of Polperro. The Couch family in Polperro dates back to the time of Henry VIII. Samuel Couch, who died in 1738, had 12 sons, eleven of whom left the village to seek their fortunes elsewhere. The remaining son, Jonathan, married Margaret Rowett in 1738 and their only son Richard was born on 30th April 1739. Dr Jonathan Couch (1789-1870). A great deal of Jonathan Couch's varied work was published during his lifetime, but his major work was Fishes of the British Islands. Top of this page.
