The Restoration Of A Classic 1916 Herreshoff Fish

Monday, April 11, 2011. I wasn't able to fit one piece of dynel for the cuddy top, so, like the deck, I had to create a 1 inch seam down the center. This was wetted out with epoxy and when dry I was able to get 1 coat of primer on. The coamings were sanded down with 220 and I was able to get on 2 coats of Allspar varnish. Dynel is cut to shape for the cuddy top. The dynel is epoxied down. First of two more coats of varnish to go on the coamings. Another view at the scarph joint. From the bow looking aft.

The Restoration Of A Classic 1916 Herreshoff Fish: December 2009

http://herreshofffishrestoration.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, December 12, 2009. Pompano's new home for the next 5 months or so. A new shed goes up over Pompano. The last spell of warm weather proved perfect timing for working outside. And in three days (minus 1/2 of one due to rain) the shed is up and shrink wrapped. Pompano's new address: 43 1/4 Eliphamets Lane. Sunday, December 6, 2009. POMPANO, a 1916 Fish Class Sloop. POMPANO Arrives At Pease Boat Works in Chatham. We tied off to two trees to winch her out of the barn. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

The Restoration Of A Classic 1916 Herreshoff Fish: March 2010

http://herreshofffishrestoration.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, March 27, 2010. As the weather fluctuates, my contempt for the winter is growing. We had snow yesterday and ice in the puddles this morning! As a small side project between these big jobs this week, I was able to cut, fit, and install 4 vertical supports from White Oak for the inner bulkheads. Thanks for checking in. A little over a month left before Pompano is expected to be wet, regardless of any finish work that remains! Not sure how Herreshoff MGF co. made the bend in this sheer clamp.

The Restoration Of A Classic 1916 Herreshoff Fish: February 2011

http://herreshofffishrestoration.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 8, 2011. The boat will sit like this over the next few weeks while I make a trip out west, then I have one week of work when I return in March before heading to Nantucket and preparing the IMPALA for her sailing trip to Italy in may. Stay tuned and look forward to that trip! Sunday, February 6, 2011. Another stick jig is made for the Port bulkhead. And the plywood mold is cut and fit. Then go in the cleats followed by the Port Orford Cedar. Here they both are glued and screwed. View my ...

The Restoration Of A Classic 1916 Herreshoff Fish: February 2010

http://herreshofffishrestoration.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 28, 2010. As a final duty to the week, I installed two new 1/4"x2" bronze machine screws into each forward chain plate. These were loose before, but are now as sturdy and tight as anything, and it will be reassuring when sailing to look under the deck and see those 1/2" bronze nuts. Throughout the week, I was able to remove the sole and finish sanding between all the frames, floors, and forepeak. I was able to adhere some fiberglass cloth on the mast for chafe protection from the gaff.

The Restoration Of A Classic 1916 Herreshoff Fish: April 2010

http://herreshofffishrestoration.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 30, 2010. Next up are the rub rails and cockpit coamings. If I can get these two things on before she's launched I will be a very happy guy. A coat of 50/50 primer and topsides paint is brushed on to the hull. STBD side 2nd coat of primer. And here are 3 coats of finish paint. Looking at the bow, 3 coats of interlux Hatteras Off White 1990. Its always satisfying to pull the tape. The red boot gets cut up to the topsides. Here is one coat.another to go. A shot of the port chock and toe rail.
